OEM Volkswagen Brake discs
dmcdayton
  • Vibration:
Rating 4.0

Just discussed this last week. I side with my VW dealer on it. They recommend just replacing the rotors, its really not that much more than having them turned, considering you almost guarantee no pulsation, no shimmy or shudder and more even brake wear.

Pros: more even brake wear
Cons: rotors need replacement
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Sachs Clutch disc

I was just doing a bunch of reading and stumbled upon this "RSR" Kit from HS Tuning. It is supposed to feel much like stock VW clutch (with just a bit more bite) and have none of the chatter and such that heavy duty aftermarket clutches supposedly do (like SB clutches I hear).

Pros: more bite, no chatter
Vehicle: Volkswagen Passat B6

Bosch Alternator

Order a 6 groove 120A alt though. It's an easy no brainer update. The car benefits under heavy loads and startup. Rainy days when the lights, wipers, a/c, heater, seat warmers, etc are all running will be worry free and your battery will charge back up with less drive time.

Pros: easy update, worry free
Vehicle: Volkswagen Corrado

Bilstein Shock absorbers

In my experience, Bilsteins are too stiff for the NB, they kept my car up and got like 1in drop with H&R springs.

Cons: too stiff, kept car up

Duralast Fuel filter
imablackhat
  • Starting:
Rating 1.5

It was a pain in the ass gettin the lines off with pushing and pulling etc. I had a oem filter on there. Right now I just got one from autozone for the sake of being cheap. Duralast. With my discount was like 10$ Anyway its all back in there and snug. However the return line to the engine is clipped on and doesn't move if pulled unless released by pushing the clip in. But the line from the tank can just be pulled off. It's almost as if the clip isn't functional anymore. Both sides are pushed as far as they will go. I turned it on. Let it run for a few minutes. Didn't notice any leaks.. I can't see the line just "coming off". But it can come off without pushing in the clip if pulled hard enough..

Pros: cheap price
Cons: difficult installation, loose connection
