PR Score

What is the PartReview Score

PR Score or PR Rating is a value from 0 to 100 that reflects the percentage of positive votes users have given for a part from a specific manufacturer. It is formed by reviews and voting.

The PR Score determines the manufacturer’s position in the part ranking, provided they have enough reviews to be included.

A brand must have at least 10 reviews for its part to receive a score.

How the PR Score is calculated

The score is based on positive, neutral, and negative reviews as well as voting. We believe that reviews have greater value than simple Yes/No voting, as they often contain characteristics, arguments, and personal judgments.

Therefore, a positive review adds +3 votes to the score, while a negative review subtracts -3 votes. Neutral reviews are more informational, so they balance the score by adding and subtracting +2 and -2 votes at the same time. Voting via buttons always counts as +1 or -1 vote.

It looks like this:

Reviews

Negative reviews
0.5-2.0
Neutral reviews
2.5-3.5
Positive reviews
4.0-5.0
-3 votes +2/-2 votes +3 votes

Voting

Negative vote Positive vote
-1 vote +1 vote

How it works

The PartReview Score for hypothetical CarAsist brake pads is 65 (percent of positive votes). They have 100 reviews and 350 votes. Assume that out of these 100 reviews:

  • 60 positive – resulting in +180 votes.
  • 10 neutral – resulting in +20 and -20 votes.
  • 30 negative – resulting in -90 votes.

In total, reviews give 310 votes (+200 and -110). But don’t forget that simple Yes/No voting also affects the rating. So we add 40 from voting (let’s say +30 positive and -10 negative) to those 310 votes.

Now there are 350 votes in total, 310 from reviews and 40 from voting. Out of these 350 votes, 230 are positive — that’s the 65% we call the PR Score.

Auto Rating

In the automotive rating, the score is calculated slightly differently.

First, it only counts votes from users who specified their car make and model. Votes from auto rating pages are also included.

Second, the score in the auto rating is calculated from the total number of votes cast for all manufacturers of this part. Not from the votes for a specific brand and part combination, as in the PR Score. To highlight the difference, we display the % symbol in the auto rating.

Let’s imagine that out of 100 reviews for the fictional CarAsist brake pads, 10 include the make and model Ford Focus. This gives them the right to participate in the Brake Pads for Ford Focus rating.

Suppose there are three other manufacturers in this rating with several reviews as well. Together with CarAsist, they have a total of 100 votes. Out of those, 25 net positive votes (after subtracting negatives) belong to CarAsist brake pads, which puts them in first place with a score of 25%.

What the green, yellow, and red scores mean

After analyzing scores from more than 25,000 reviews, we formed an approximate understanding of how to categorize scores by color. Red represents a “poor” score, yellow means “average,” and green indicates a “good” score.

This is how the PartReview score color scale looks:

Meaning Score range
Positive reviews 75-100
Mixed or ambiguous reviews 50-74
Negative reviews 0-49
