I've used Motul in my Golfs for years, good stuff.

Amsoil 10-30 was my choice on my 200,000 mile 2001 jetta + i changed @ 10,000 usually 4 to 6 months. car was chipped etc, about 300 tq + 275 TQ with a KO-4 + APR tune etc.
AMS oil 5w40 "European Formula" after first 5k. Just dumped the first oil after 10k of hard driving. Still had lot's of life left in the oil, and no noticeable consumption as we recovered almost all of what was originally put in (4.4 of 4.5L)
The Motul stuff is pretty great, though I went with Liqui Moly Leichtlauf 5w-40. My 2.0 TSI Gen 2 really like that oil, never burned a drop and saw about +2% in fuel economy.
For my 24v I use: Castrol Edge Professional OE 5w40
A quick bench test revealed the damping rate of the replacement shocks to feel approximately twice that of the originals, which were way too soft even for daily driving over bad surfaces.
just replaced 4 year old battery in my 2010 Wagon. It was not really a rocket science but it was nice to have a write up nonetheless. The biggest issue for me was to figure out group size for my battery: supposedly both 47 and 48 work but I wanted to get an exact model. After some online research and hard measurements it was clear my current battery was group size 48. Went with Bosch from Pep Boys for 108 (with tax and after 30% coupon). Despite the car being without the battery for 8+ hours, I had no issues with codes, errors, etc. The only thing I needed to adjust was the time.
Thanks for the help Waynep, ended up replacing the alternator itself and now its working like a charm!
The original filter that came on my 2009 GLI was marked 6.4 bar. I believe the filter for the 2.5 Jetta is 4.0 bar, which is what Amazon tells you to get for your GTI too. I do believe that's wrong.
Dad is in the process of changing the oil in my car and told me my oil filter looks just like yours. Got me thinking and I realized used a Mobil 1 filter this time. An my car only had 4k on that filter. Stay away from that filter people!
