I think they are great. Saved around 500 bucks over 10 yrs.
Owner reviews for air filter
I purchased K&N drop-in engine & cabin air filters. They are ridiculously easy to access and change yourself- and you’ll never have to buy air filters for as long as you own it.
Mahle LX2925, Wix 46814 and Hatings/Baldwin AF1198 are all rated as P71/Marauder filters with higher flow rates, at \\~460cfm as opposed to the standard LX or GS filters rated at 320cfm. The P71/Marauder filters will flow more airflow than the 4.6 can actually breathe in, and filter better than any aftermarket oiled filter.
Drop in K&N worked good for me.
It's likely your car have a cabin filter probably behind the glove box, change it and the air filter.
Mann, Mahle, and Hengst are the three biggest BMW OE air filter manufacturers. They all make a good filter.
They're good filters, very good, but they're not worth the trouble for most people. It's rare that anyone really keeps up with the instructions for those filters to a TEE, and not following those instructions can have repercussions. My dad used to use them, and would have me use them as well when I was younger, but they were not worth the trouble, and fouled up sensors because be didn't do X, Y, or Z properly. And when I read the directions myself, I realized he never did the maintenance properly (such as the oiling, drying). I threw mine out and his as well. If you're going to follow all directions to a perfect tee, they're really good. But that +2HP or whatever is not worth it for me.
Medyo mahal yung Airfilter pero yung iba all goods
A K&N filter will significantly reduce engine life. It lets in more particles than the OEM filter.
The air filters are the only thing I will confidently say are better when bought from Tesla rather than an Amazon knockoff. Generally I find aftermarket stuff to be equivalent in performance but the Amazon air filters did little to reduce gas smells in the cabin and I found myself constantly having to turn on the recirculation. Haven't had that issue with the OEM filters
