R1 Concepts Brake discs
yusuke280
  • Braking:
Rating 4.0

Picked these up because my ultimate goal was to do something OEM+. These were drilled with a very OEM like coating and when the calipers were painted blue it looked identical to those R32/R36 brake set up. Although I only had them for a short period of time, I've previously used e-Line on other cars and had no problems just like the Premium one.

Pros: OEM like coating
Cons: inconsistent drilled positions
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Pirelli Tires

I've been AutoX-ing my MkVII this year as well. Nothing too serious though, just more for the fun of getting out and tearing around in the car and meeting lots of great people. I went with tires/wheels this season rather than a tune as many others have, not only to stay in GS, but also because the stock Pirelli P7s just didn't cut it, even for street driving, it would only be worse with more power. I went with a nice easy package from Tirerack on some wheels that were 5lbs lighter per corner and I couldn't pass up on the closeout pricing for the Direzza ZIIs. I only wish I had done it sooner! The added grip really did transform the car, turn-in is so much crisper, and most of the time you can really get the car to go where you want to put it. Rotation is greatly improved too, I'm continuously amazed at how well this car rotates for a heavy FWD.

Pros: added grip, crisper turn-in
Cons: stock Pirelli P7s crappy

Hawk Performance Brake pads
superloaf
  • Braking:
Rating 5.0

You might just try a pad upgrade first. I've never been impressed with 16v brakes but I recently tried some Hawk HPS pads and now I can't believe how quickly this car stops. And I'm really picky about things especially brakes.

Pros: car stops quickly
Cons: not impressed with brakes

Bosch Starter motor
Kp5609
  • Cranking:
Rating 4.0

So, after a fun summer and fall of some great worry free driving something came up.... it wouldn't start properly. So naturally I took the battery to advanced auto parts to test it, it worked fine and passed, then tested the starter, and was reading a bit slow, can't quite remember the cranking speed but it was in the low 100's RPM. So after days of having to pop start the car, yes I know.... poor clutch! I got a brand new REMAN Bosch starter, and installed it. For the next two days it started just fine

Pros: started just fine
Vehicle: Volkswagen

OEM Volkswagen Intercooler
Bobdhd
  • Power:
Rating 4.0

The wife's TDi died a couple of times on her just after she left the parking garage at work... It was deemed to be a small amount of water that had gotten into the intercooler that was sloshing around & would coincidently block the port, a check valve & new intercooler were the fix.

Pros: check valve, new intercooler
Cons: water in intercooler
Vehicle: Volkswagen Tiguan

CTEK Battery charger
invisiblewave
  • Charging time:
Rating 3.0

I had the same thing with my CTEK connector (although I put mine on the starter battery since the other panel is simple to open), but instead of forcing off the nuts, I just clipped a piece out of the CTEK ring connector. In retrospect, I wouldn't have bothered with the CTEK charger at all, my old Schumacher charger is just as good

Pros: charger is just as good
Cons: vehicle supply useless
Vehicle: Volkswagen Phaeton
