I have used an engine flush by bg products before on my 07 si to try to get it to clean up inside. I had no sludge in my motor but i was mostly trying to clean it up since my dipstick kept showing dark oil even after fresh oil changes and It really seemed to help since then.

Amsoil engine flush. Then some Amsoil 0w-40 full synthetic and oil filter change. Sounds like lifter tick.
Either way an engine flush couldn't hurt, i've had good success (hasn't blown up my 1.8t and slowed consumption down) using liquimoly.
Per olii&Co Liqui Moly è una garanzia. E ogni tot prima di scaricare l’olio giù con il loro engine flush.
MoS2, Ceratec, Engine Flush… I have own my mk7.5 since 30k miles, do my own changes, a flush every 3-4 changes, ceratec every other and MoS2 in the other. So far 120k going strong, have never had any issues. Knock on wood **
I would recommend the engine flush made by Liqui Moly which you put in and run for 15 minutes, then dump out. it works quite well, and you might need to do a number of flushes to get most of it out.
I like this stuff. Used it on a new to me 100k mile BMW with the N52 engine. It had the notorious lifter tick at start up and randomly when warm. Used the engine flush on 3 consecutive 2500 mile oil changes. Cured the lifter tick.
But this GTI is on E, sitting at 221k, and I’m already doing 3,500‑mile oil changes; the Liqui Moly Pro-Line Engine Flush is just extra insurance to keep the internals clean so the old girl keeps pulling hard.
I performed the engine flush using LiquiMolly over the weekend. Got the engine to operating temp, poured the can into the engine and let it stand idle for 30 min. I did notice some amount of what appeared to be sludge come out.
Did a liqui moly engine flush with no result. But still burning oil.
