Engine braking is how I got 60k miles out of the original brake rotors and pads on my '07 GTI as well as a steady 30 mpg while barely trying.

Pros: steady mpg, long life
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 96560 km

Brembo Brake discs

I have solid BREMBO rotors, girling calipers and I think that you can get slotted rotors in the 'solid' width....just a different kind of venting.

Pros: slotted rotors, different venting
Cons: vented rotors heavier
Vehicle: Volkswagen Scirocco

DBA Brake discs

I'm putting [DBA T3 4000](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005SJ7ERU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) rotors on my WRX (with Ferodo DS2500 pads) next week. Those rotors are rated for racing temps and aren't crazy expensive.

Pros: rated for racing temps
Cons: aren't crazy expensive
Vehicle: Subaru
Part number: T3 4000

Brake Performance Brake discs

I'm not sure if you have the sensor or not. Either way, if you're just looking at blank rotors, your costs will be a bit less than mine. http://brakeperformance.com/brake-rotors/Premium-Dimpled-and-Slotted-Brake-Rotors.php?did=35848 - rotors for fronts with sensor http://brakeperformance.com/brake-rotors/Premium-Dimpled-and-Slotted-Brake-Rotors.php?did=35849 - rotors for fronts without sensor https://www.carpartkings.com/brake/disc-brake-pad.html - Pads

Pros: lower costs for blank rotors

Recently, I pad-slapped the x-type with some of the other pads I had, on the used OEM rotors, and surprisingly it brakes just fine. It seems the issue with poor braking was likely the cheap rotors...

Pros: brakes just fine
Cons: poor braking

Our 03 Variant Tip needed rear pads at 30,000. Got the ATE rotors and "OEM" pads from 1stVWParts. No complaints about price, etc BUT the pads actually put out MORE dust than the stock ones!!!!!

Pros: no complaints about price
Cons: pads put out more dust
Mileage: 30000 km

On my old '93 300ZX, my brakes were shot so I had specifically ordered Brembo (solid) rotors, Hawk HPS pads, SS brake lines and the blue performance brake fluid. honestly, I really never felt that the brakes were that much better than oem.

Pros: looked cool
Cons: not much better than oem
Vehicle: Nissan
