The only things I ever did with that old thing was replace a few starters, exhaust pipe cuz it rotted out, brake pads, shocks, and went through plenty of tires.
To save money, I think they skipped shock absorbers, and just used marshmellows as dampers
They found a cracked DS exhaust manifold, pulsing brakes, a pull under braking, leaking front pinion seal, and bad rear shocks. I tackled the shocks myself
I purchased 2 shock absorbers for my Xterra for $80 online and had them installed for $40. The dealer wanted to charge $240 to replace only the broken one.
