OEM BMW Brake pads

I’d never buy a used car with more than 30-40k miles. If it’s around 30k-40k miles, I’d say you should be mostly problem free but you’ll have some maintenance things to take care of: Brakes and fluid

Pros: mostly problem free
Cons: maintenance to take care
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 64373 km

OEM BMW Water pump
Fassbendr
  • Overheating:
Rating 4.5

I had my 2008 BMW 135i E88 for going on 14 years, it's about to hit 70k miles and looks like new. I've done a couple bolt-ones (IC, charge pipe, Cobb tune). It's been a great car and a blast to drive. I did replace the water pump this past summer otherwise normal maintenance.

Pros: great car, blast drive
Cons: water pump replacement
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 112654 km

OEM BMW Spark plug

I bought my 2019 330i in 2022. It was a lease return. While basic maintenance items are a lot more than, let’s say, a Toyota, it has been far from a money pit. I have put 50k miles on it in the three years I’ve had it, and had nothing out of the ordinary go wrong. Spark plugs, brake pads, air filters, tires, oil changes, that’s it.

Pros: nothing out of ordinary
Cons: maintenance items pricey

Mileage: 80467 km

OEM BMW Air suspension
ConstantLight7489
  • Leveling under load:
Rating 4.0

I own 2. Bought both used at around 45,000 miles. One now has 145,000 and has had two minor repairs in those 8 yrs of ownership (roughly $500 each time). The other is a bit newer, I knew when buying it that the rear air suspension would be soon due for replacement.

Pros: minor repairs
Cons: air suspension replacement
Vehicle: BMW X5
Mileage: 72420 km

OEM BMW Brake pads

I’m on my second lightly used BMW. first one had 25k miles and was totaled at 60k, current one was bought around the same time and is now at 40k. Both have been great. A little pricey on maintenance because it’s around the time when things like brakes need to be replaced but completely worth it in my opinion.

Pros: both have been great
Cons: pricey on maintenance

Mileage: 64373 km

OEM BMW Fog lights

  • Fog visibility:
  • Glare control:
Rating 3.0

Front fog lights are dazzling in the rain because they reflect off the wet road surface, so it's annoying then, but front fogs don't really bother me if it's dry.

Cons: dazzling in the rain

OEM BMW Air suspension

BMW 7 series was an absolute nightmare. Air suspension failures multiple times in the first year. Each time required the car to be in shop for 4 weeks for them to order parts under warranty. I’d get it back only for the air suspension to go out on another side. They couldn’t replace all in one go since it was a warranty and needed it to fail before placing a claim and again the 4 week wait for parts…

Cons: repeated failures, long repair times
Vehicle: BMW

The timing chain broke at 185k km(115k miles) while driving and had to rebuild the engine since it messed up many things.

Cons: premature failure, engine damage
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 185000 km

OEM BMW Transfer case

The gas mileage sucks and you need a warranty because the transfer case will fail and cost more than an exclusionary warranty

Cons: prone to failure, expensive to repair
Vehicle: BMW X7
