VALVOLINE Engine oil

I also have a 2.0 and run the valvoline synthetic. I started after 2500m and am currently at 29k. No scientific results here other than keeping track of mileage in a little notebook and looking back at the first month compared to the most recent - I'm averaging about 7mpg more.

Pros: improved fuel economy
Mileage: 29000 km

VALVOLINE Engine oil
vasillalov
  • Engine noise:
Rating 4.5

All these problems are not present in the Valvoline SuperSynth 5W-40 sample. Furthermore, the results from this Valvoline are well below the Universal averages for this engine. This suggests that I should be able to run this oil for at least another 1000-2000 miles and still get an excellent report out of it! With it, my engine runs bit smoother and quieter especially at idle. At high engine speeds the engine feels more responsive and more lively. Another difference is that with Valvoline, I am observing improved efficiency. My 2.0 broke its own record of fuel efficiency: 34.3 miles to the gallon on high way. The improvement is 3.3-3.9 miles per gallon compared to Mobil1.

Pros: smoother engine, quieter idle, more responsive, improved efficiency

OEM Volkswagen Thermostat
CuRide
  • Overheating:
Rating 4.5

I replaced mine with a low temp thermostat and low temp fan sensor aswell as the infamous blue coolant temp sensor a week ago and everything ran so much cooler and smoother now. My coolant temp sensor failed for weeks and wouldn't run the low speed fan and the water temp was 30-40 degree hotter than usual. Now it's all good with AC blasting in bumper to bumper traffic for 1 hour and it water temp reads 205-215, but my oil are in the 240's.

Pros: cooler, smoother running

OEM Volkswagen Brake discs

I upgraded from solid rotors in my '80 rabbit to vented from a scirroco and the braking is fantastic! I seems that I don't have to press the pedal as far and the brakes stop me like a champ. I too have stomped down a bit with my vented rotors and boy do I stop quick now!

Pros: braking is fantastic

OEM Volkswagen Brake discs

The best and most economical upgrade is using the 9.4 inch vented rotors from the '83 & '84 GTI's. With new 9.4 inch vented rotors and the right performance pads, you will have much better braking capacity without having to swap master cylinders and proportional rear valves.

Pros: better braking capacity

  • Braking:
Rating 5.0

Hi Black betty... here's the bottom line,.... if the S3 brakes can be purchased and fitted to your car within your budget, then buy the brakes. I've got S3 brakes on my Mk4 Gti, and beyond a dogbone mount, they're the best value mod possible. For performance road applications, the brakes are superb and miles beyond stock Gti brakes.

Pros: superb, best value mod

Bosch Spark plug
Bergoon
  • Idle:
  • Acceleration:
Rating 1.0

I just put Bosch Copper plugs in my 2.0 L Passat and it's running like crap. I think I forgot to gap a couple of the plugs... Would that explain the rough running engine?

Cons: running like crap, rough running engine
