Zimmermann Brake discs
makenramen
  • Braking:
Rating 4.0

i have this setup actually.. on my 2.0. zimmerman crossdrilled and ebc greenstuff. the concensus is that for most city and highway driving, solid rotors are best, more braking surface = better stopping. however, my setup really BITES for 10.1" rotors... i just m ainly got the crossdrilleds for looks

Pros: good deal, high quality

Hawk Performance Brake pads
aaonms
  • Braking:
  • Dust:
Rating 4.5

On my 20th, I swapped to Hawk HPS within a couple of months of having the car. Now, after 40K miles on the pads, I find that they dust considerably less than stock, stop at least as well as OEM, and work well when cold.

Pros: dust considerably less, work well when cold

Shell Engine oil
Upstatetdi
  • Engine noise:
Rating 4.0

My '03 jetta tdi just turned 84000, I have used the rotella synthetic 5-40 the whole time. I change it about every 7,000. I'm in the northeast. Last year it got down to 10 or 15 below quite a few times. It sounds like someone shaking a buckets of marbles when I first start it, but it smothhs right out and allways starts. Rotela is ok by me.

Pros: always starts, ok by me
Cons: shaking sound at start
Mileage: 84000 km

ATE Brake discs
Rare Hare
  • Braking:
Rating 5.0

Although it is just an 8V, I run my GTi hard at autocross and road race events. I still have the 9.4\" brakes up front. I just upgraded with SS lines, ATE super blue fluid, ATE power disks, and a ceramic compound pad. They stop great and have not shown any signs of fade.

Pros: stop great, no fade

Girling Brake caliper
vdubturbo
  • Pulling:
Rating 4.0

First of all, you can run the G60 (Girling 54) fronts with rear disk on a 20mm master cylinder with no problem. I am running that setup right now. That being said, yes, the pedal feel would be nicer with a 22mm master, but the 20mm will work also.

Pros: 20mm master works fine
Cons: pedal feel not optimal

Bilstein Shock absorbers
pyce
  • Body bounce:
Rating 3.0

As you all can see, the dyno showed how the TC Sport are (as also advertised) pretty close to stock, if we look at the compression. The rebound is quiet more than stock thought. But from the graphs is pretty clear that the TC is not any near the advertised 10 or 20% stiffer than stock

Pros: rebound more than stock
Cons: not 10-20% stiffer
