Pierburg Water pump

I'm working on adapting these water pumps to a variety of older engines. This one will be going on a Chevy LSx. The pumps support two different control schemes; one via PWM (no feedback) and one via LIN. I will be working on reversing the LIN communications and building a more sophisticated controller soon.

Pros: supports PWM and LIN
Cons: reversing LIN communications
Vehicle: Chevrolet

Bilstein Shock absorbers

I put bilstein 5100 on all four corners of my previous tahoe and replaced all the blown auto-ride shocks. Even with the maxed out keys up front and overall firmer ride up front with little to no downtravel, it still rode far better than stock.

Pros: rode far better than stock
Cons: little to no downtravel
Vehicle: Chevrolet Tahoe

Heatshield Sun shades
Troopr1023
  • Fit:
  • Ease of use:
Rating 4.0

I use a Heatshield sun shade on my 2018 LT. It has full coverage and fits perfectly. It’s a roll up type sun shade (as opposed to a folding one) so it takes up some more space in your car when you’re not using it. I just put it in the back seats.

Pros: full coverage, perfect fit
Cons: takes up space
Vehicle: Chevrolet Bolt

Kumho Tires
raitchison
  • Grip:
  • Noise:
Rating 4.0

I swapped my OEM tires for summer tires (Kumho Ecsta PS31), they provide much more grip and are a bit quieter though since they aren't LRR (Low Rolling Resistance) I do lose about 10% on range.

Pros: more grip, a bit quieter
Cons: lose about 10% range
Vehicle: Chevrolet

GENERAL TIRE Tires

I just ordered a set of General Tire G-MAX AS-05 for my Bolt. With 28,000 miles of wear on the factory tires, I can feel it starting to hydroplane in heavy rain. I'm swapping before something worse than "starting to hydroplane" happens. And I'm looking forward to it being a *lot more fun* to drive.

Pros: more fun to drive
Cons: starting to hydroplane
Mileage: 45061 km

GENERAL MOTORS Water pump
E365
  • Leaks:
  • Noise:
Rating 4.0

I have a family member with a 2004 4.2 w/170,000 miles. It’s been very reliable. It had some evac valve replaced many years ago and I recently did the water pump as the bearing had some play, but no leak. Almost zero rust. An exhaust heat shield rattles currently. It wouldn’t shift into 4WD for a time, but new transfer case fluid fixed that - (it’s not maintained super well).

Pros: very reliable, almost zero rust
Cons: evac valve replaced, water pump bearing play, exhaust heat shield rattles
Vehicle: Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Mileage: 170000 km

Shell Engine oil
BustedCondoms
  • Engine noise:
Rating 5.0

I've used it in my Z06, Suburban, my wife's Ford Edge Ecoboost and my old Gixxer and R6.

It's a good oil and cost effective.

It's synthetic, has decent additives and won't hurt anything in any of your vehicles.

Pros: good oil, cost effective
Vehicle: Chevrolet
