OEM Nissan CVT transmission

I got a 2013 Altima... it’s at 170k miles and never had any mechanical issues. It’s all anecdotal but my experience was good

Pros: no mechanical issues, good experience
Vehicle: Nissan Altima
Mileage: 170000 km

OEM Nissan Thermostat

Just make sure you buy a genuine Nissan thermostat. I don't know what it is about these cars, but they do NOT like aftermarket thermostats. Just spend the extra ten bucks on a Nissan part.

Pros: genuine part recommended
Cons: aftermarket not liked
Vehicle: Nissan

OEM Nissan Battery

Crappy "genuine VW battery/parts" for you. Any of my other OEM Japanese car batteries lasted much longer. My 2011 Nissan 370z OEM battery lasted 7 years. It could've probably gone even longer if not for without driving it for long during the covid pandemic.

Pros: long lifespan
Cons: crappy quality
Vehicle: Nissan

OEM Nissan Alternator

  • Warning light:
Rating 4.0

My 2005 Altima used to eat alternators. The first and second replacement were rebuilds or aftermarket, I don't remember the order. I finally paid for an OEM and that one lasted until I sold the vehicle a few years later. This is one of those parts that is better to stick with OEM replacements.

Pros: OEM lasted longer
Cons: aftermarket failed quickly
Vehicle: Nissan Altima

OEM Nissan Tires

I keep my tires around 40 psi and from what I remember the TPMS doesn't send an alert until the pressure is around 25 psi, it is mainly a second layer warning since you should be checking the tire pressure at least once a month.

Pros: TPMS second layer warning

OEM Nissan Transfer case

  • Noise:
  • Leaks:
Rating 3.0

I had the CVT replaced back in 2014 while under the warranty. Later in the year I noticed what I would describe as a faint humming noise that would come and go. Turns out the noise was coming from the transfer case. It now has a slight leak and with a noise that cannot be ignored.

Pros: drives really well
Cons: slight leak, humming noise
Vehicle: Nissan Murano
Mileage: 89000 km

OEM Nissan Automatic transmission
Key_Budget9267
  • Shift quality:
Rating 1.0

Nissan has had huge problems over the last 15-20 years with their transmissions. Nissan has sourced automatic transmissions for all of their front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive models for the past 20 years from a company called Jatco, known for making awful transmissions. They're notorious for failure, especially when not religiously maintained, and cannot be rebuilt when they do fail, forcing Nissan owners to buy an entirely new transmission when theirs fails.

Cons: transmissions notorious for failure

OEM Nissan Windshield

  • Chips/cracks:
Rating 1.0

I just rented an Altima that had something fall onto the windshield while I was leaving the parking garage to go to work yesterday. When it was time to drive home from work, it had turned into a crack over a foot long! She said the newer ones must use a fragile glass.

Cons: fragile glass, foot-long crack
Vehicle: Nissan Altima
