MICHELIN Tires

As much as I love the Continental DWS 06+, I needed to purchase a set of Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires. The Continental DWS 06+ were fine. I got by the Winter without problems. There were only 3 times that I felt that I could use a more Winter like tire.

Pros: fine, got by winter
Cons: could use winter tire

IHI Turbocharger

The main party piece of the TCR/Clubsport/R engine is the IHI IS38 turbocharger. It is optimised to keep building power higher up in the rev range, where the regular GTI's IS20 runs out of puff.

Pros: builds power higher up

Continental Tires

Rating 5.0

Not the 02 but I had a set of the Conti ECSs on my stage 1 MK7 R and loved them. Great wet traction, especially under power, and they were fairly quiet. I also have them on my current E92 M3 and they've stood up very well to two track days so far. Loads of dry grip.

Pros: great wet traction, quiet

Sachs Clutch disc

Rating 4.0

do NOT go with the Sachs sintered paddle disc kit. You don't need it, and it sucks ass to drive. The organic disc holds 400ft-lbs and is buttery smooth to drive. Fantastic option.

I needed something to hold over 400tq on my CUA swapped MK7 Golf, and thus the sintered disc is what I went with. I can live with it, but man do I miss the organic one.

Pros: organic disc buttery smooth, organic disc holds 400ft-lbs
Cons: sintered disc sucks to drive

SPEC Flywheel
mk3illa
  • Rattle:
  • Shift smoothness:
Rating 2.0

From personal experience, I'd stray from a lightened flywheel. I had a SPEC kit with a stage 1 and lightweight flywheel, and the chatter is not ideal for daily driving. This also isn't the smoothest operating motor, and the flywheel will remind you.

Cons: chatter is not ideal

Hankook Tires

Has anybody experienced dry rot with the factory Hankook Kinergy GT tires that came equipped with the 16" Torontos (In MY 2017 at least)? All four tires have these cracks along the outer channels. 16k miles, 8/32" tread depth remaining. 4 years old.

Cons: dry rot, cracks
Mileage: 25750 km
