Well, the 235-45 tires arrived from Tire Rack mounted on forged rim aftermarket 17 inch wheels, these were installed yesterday. Steering feel and feed back are really good, little or no compromise of comfort. The Z-rated General tires, German-made, are actually a bit lighter than the 225-45 Goodyear R-SA's they replaced. No clearance problems, the three tenths of an inch increase in overall tire diameter isn't all that noticeable. The design of the wheel and the tire sidewall as well as the wider tire section width all give a lot more rim protection. The original VW wheels and OE tires left the outer rim and spokes protruding beyond the sidewall, very vulnerable to damage. Any change from OEM is invariably a compromise, no buyer's remorse on this one.
Volkswagen Beetle parts reviews
i use mobil delvac 1 5w40 synthetic oil in my 2000 beetle tdi.
That's why I got one for my '66 Beetle (12 volt conversion) It won't rust out the now repaired battery tray! Also, you don't want to put a super-hyper battery charger on them. They tend to like being charged on the slow side.
I ran my 2K beetle for 21K miles on Amsoil 5-3o/5w-40 and milage went up 7% and started awsome when it was 0 degrees out . Now I have a 2005 Jetta and its next for the 5w-40 @ 5K oil change .
use M1 0w-40 in my girls Beetle S. works like a charm. currently i'm using AMSOIL 5w-40. going to switch to M1 0w-40 after this.
the 1200 I always figured was more reliable. the 1600 is good but in the later years the carb got to complicated. A damn 34 Pict 4 is a nightmare. Electronic choke The carb on my 1200 is very basic, has manual choke and actually restricts the motor from reving to fast because it acts like a restrictor. I have a friend that swears by 1500 single ports too. At any rate...my 1200cc has been running 46 years and still hasn't required a rebuild. Personally...that's pretty good
i had a buddy purchase me a set of bosch platinum plugs. i installed the plugs this morning before going to work, removing the old plugs, i found the number 1 and number 2 are wet with fuel. after installing the platinum plugs, i cranked the engine. and it started! the idle was smooth. i took my vw to work today, and the engine pulled smoothly in all rpms!
Surveys on several VW forums have Castrol 20w50 a clear winner for quality, price and availability, but other good brands like Valvoline, BP, Shell etc get honourable mentions too.
my 1200cc engine also used to have an electric choke. my carb was a 28-PICT solex. then the throttle arm started leaking fuel, and there's no machine shop in our area who could fix the sleeve, so i bought a new solex 30/31 carb. it still runs good, but i miss the 28-PICT fuel miser...
135's in the rain are really bad when you make turns!!
