Bilstein Strut assembly
rcaerxr
  • Bounce:
Rating 4.0

But, the ride on these Bilstein B4's is pretty reasonable on the street. They are a bit stiff but not harsh. The rear is little stiffer than the front, almost too stiff.

Pros: reasonable ride on street
Cons: bit stiff, rear stiffer

Pentosin Antifreeze
ninethree2cc
  • Temperature stability:
Rating 4.0

I'm almost positive that VW uses Pentosin at the factory- I think the G12/G13 is the same stuff as the Pentofrost SF/Pentofrost E.

rainx Washer fluid
IanCH
  • Cold performance:
Rating 4.0

Just dont use the rainx fluid (orange). The blue stuff that has the cold rating (sold at gas stations) is good enough for me.

Pros: good enough for me
Cons: dont use rainx fluid

Hawk Performance Brake pads
rcaerxr
  • Braking:
Rating 4.0

I did install Hawk HP+ pads w/Centric high carbon blank rotors and flushed the system with Motul 600 brake fluid. That setup has worked well on my girlfriend's Cooper S while it did double duty on track weekends. So, it should work for this car.

Pros: worked well on track

OEM Audi Intercooler
gsvr
  • Power:
Rating 4.0

Audi s3 / golf r intercooler is a significant upgrade over the stock mk6 set up.. it has more cooling fins , it's also deeper and wider holding roughly 30% more volume of air.. were our stock intercooler weighs around 7lb stock s3 weighs almost 20lb because has much more cooling fins and thicker fins for a better dissipation of heat.. It's perfect upgrade for stock or stage 1 ,2 but not worth while after stage 2 because to much heat.. Like any intercooler as with s3 it's doesn't add hp but keeps power constant, with oem after few spirited runs it tends to heat soak and pulling power back resulting in 10-20hp loss.. The 10-15 reviews I've read every single one said it's a great upgrade and very noticeable and kept power constant w/o heat soak on stage 1 and few even did it on stock cars saying helped , I attribute this to a 30% more volume of air it's holding vs the own intercooler.

Pros: great upgrade, noticeable difference
Cons: not worth after stage 2

KONI Shock absorbers
dnelsen
  • Body bounce:
  • Bottoming:
Rating 5.0

Love my Koni STR.T's (Orange) with VW Driver's Gear Spings (similar to stock GLI springs, only lower), they're perfect. Particularly since I don't have to wonder if they're on the right setting, as they're not adjustable lol. Inexpensive too. Simple, solid, can't go wrong.

Pros: simple, solid, inexpensive

STOPTECH Brake discs
z27
  • Noise:
Rating 3.0

At ~4,000 miles, I bought a set of StopTech (front) drilled+slotted rotors (non-PP) for my GTI and kept my OEM brake pads. Everything was fine up until recently (~2,000 miles later). I now hear a high pitch "squealing" noise at very low speeds. This happens right when I'm about to come to a complete stop (1-3 mph).

Cons: high pitch squealing noise
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 4000 km

Hankook Tires
GTI-2007
  • Noise:
  • Ride comfort:
Rating 2.0

I had the 18" Hankook tires on my 2012 Highline and managed to get almost 50,000 KMs out of them before I traded the car. They were always quite noisy, and they wore terribly.

Pros: high mileage
Cons: quite noisy, wore terribly
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 50000 km
