The 12.3 mk4/TT setup is great for my all other driving. Hell they were great even with my corrado and caddy trailer loaded (4,500+ lbs) on a 7,500+ lap around the USA.

Pros: great for all driving

BRIDGESTONE Tires

I mean one of the first things I did on my Golf R was.... better rubber and it really did transform the car.(FYI... highly recommend the newish Bridgestone Potenza Sports). I guess the other point is.. don't skimp on tires. Pay for what you get.

Pros: transform the car

Carbotech Brake pads

Rating 5.0

The xp12s are beasts. I pulled brake bias 1-click from full rear to get them balanced on level braking. This gives me one click for more rear, which was really enough for the track. I love late braking, and I can hammer these on a 20min session with NO change in performance.

Pros: very aggressive, no performance fade
Part number: XP12

OEM Volkswagen Control arm
Brigand
  • Stability:
Rating 4.0

The aluminum lower control arm and knuckle removes about 7 to 8 lbs. of unsprung weight from each corner in the front. It doesn't sound like much but it makes a big difference in how the car feels. The whole front end feels lighter, and weight transfers feel faster from side to side.

Pros: lighter front end, faster transfers

Continental Tires

Heard great things about the Michelin Pilot, I personally went with Continental ExtrmeContact DWS06+ and vast improvement on ‘19 GLI.

EBC Brake pads
AdamSheikh
  • Braking:
Rating 4.5

I've been more than happy with EBC Red Stuff pads - they hold up well to spirited mountain drives when I take my trips to AVF and Wookies each year, but have no downsides for daily driving duties. If tracking the car, you'll want something substantially more aggressive though.

Pros: hold up well, no downsides daily
Cons: need more aggressive for tracking

OEM Volkswagen Brake pads
ordpetegti
  • Braking:
  • Dust:
Rating 3.0

My 06 GTI had the rears wear out at 70k. The fronts lasted until 135k. I was completely dumbfounded that the rears wore faster and the fronts lasted that long. I replaced everything with OEM parts and am experiencing similar wear on the new stuff.

Pros: OEM parts replacement
Cons: rears wear faster

Mileage: 70000 km

OEM glass doesn't distort around the perimeter. We got an aftermarket window for our Alltrack and were disappointed.

Cons: distorts around perimeter

OEM Volkswagen Water pump
Ali B
  • Leaks:
Rating 1.0

My 2016 Mk7 GTI is on its 4th water pump/thermostat housing. The first replacement happened at about 27K miles, the second failed at 63K miles, and the third failed at 72K miles. I fully expect this one to leak again soon. I find it ridiculous that VW/Audi don't fix a faulty part after all these years. The plastic thermostat housing is to blame. Instead of a metal housing which can handle the thermal stresses, they continue to use a plastic housing which will start leaking sooner or later.

Cons: fails repeatedly, plastic housing, leaks sooner or later
Mileage: 115872 km
