I used Zimmerman rotors and ATE ceramic pads all purchased from fcpeuro.com. With stock pads I could wash the car and within two days they would be brown from brake dust. Now I can go weeks before I start to notice that there may be a little dust.
With the ceramic pads I cannot tell a difference in braking, I have almost no brake dust, and the rotors still look like new.
Swapped the oil filter with the recommended Wix oil filter
The mk8 is certainly less subtle than the mk7, especially in Lapiz Blue. I've had my fair share of guys wanting to run. Elantra n, civic type r, a few Audi s's, WRX. On an empty highway I'll enjoy a few friendly 40-90 pulls in good fun.

I'd bet the valve cover gasket could be failing and the coilpack/s are drowning in oil.

When I checked my belt at 60k miles I found it was very loose. Loose enough that I checked the camshaft timing to be sure it hadn't jumped at all. The engine ran a lot better after I adjusted the belt tension.
I don't care for the Bosch Icons that most people like. Have had nothing but trouble with them.
I traded my mk8 GTI (early Canadian model) for a mk7.5R recently because my mk8 GTI was so problematic: the rad fell out at speed and left me stranded (this should no longer be an issue on these cars)
