STOPTECH Brake pads
Mutesyou
  • Braking:
Rating 4.5

Just did all 4 of my rotors and pads(rear pads were gone no warning and destroyed a rotor)

Went centric premium rotors all around, they’re nice and painted black on the outer surfaces

Stoptech sport pads all around, quite abit of bite I’ve been able to drive them in pretty cold temps and rain now with no issue

Pros: good bite, cold temp performance
Cons: destroyed rotor
Vehicle: Subaru

POWER STOP Brake pads

I went with Powerstop pads and centric rotors from Rock Auto and have been happy with the increase in bite and stopping power. I believe I purchased the hybrid ceramic/metallic pads.

Pros: increased bite, stopping power

OEM Subaru Thermostat
SkylineFTW97
  • Overheating:
Rating 5.0

Had that happen with my 02 Outback. Put in an aftermarket thermostat when I redid the timing chain and it overheated. Replaced it with an OE one (bled it the exact same way, used Subaru coolant straight from the dealer both times) and it went away completely.

Pros: fixed overheating, reliable performance
Vehicle: Subaru Outback

OEM Subaru Head gasket

642 head gaskets from a similar year wrx. Don’t use the same 633 or you will have the same problem again.

Pros: solves recurring problem
Vehicle: Subaru
Part number: 642

AMSOIL Engine oil

Stage 2+ 2016 wrx here, in my experience (with having run both full synthetic amzoil and motul) I can honestly say that while both are rated very good for the FA-20 I would lean toward the motul simply for responsiveness. The car just seems to respond better to that brand, 100% just off personal experience

Pros: rated very good
Vehicle: Subaru

PENNZOIL Engine oil

The data I've seen round the web, including BITOG forums says that Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 is as good or better than the waaay overpriced Motul stuff.

Pros: good or better
Cons: waaay overpriced
Vehicle: Subaru

ZEXEL AC compressor
BigAlDavies
  • Noise:
  • Engagement:
Rating 3.0

I ended up buying one of these, because of the amount of smoke, I didn't trust the old one, and I couldn't get a reconditioned one in the UK for my particular car. Shipping over a new one from the USA would hurt, so I've gone with this. I don't imagine it will last as well as an OEM version though, as I'm not entirely convinced it is genuine. Zexel is an OEM on some parts though. Who knows. Seems to be built well though:

Pros: seems built well
Cons: doubtful longevity, not genuine
