I had a 2008 Ford Fusion and drove by large long distance (commuted for a while between SFO and LA).

Eventually I moved to the East Coast and needed to do mandatory car checks (started in DC). When we finally moved to NYC I was at the garage and needed to do the inspection. The guy said he cannot let me pass, because the brake pads where at the limit. I ask him to change them and mentioned that this is the first replacement of my brake pads and he was shaking his head in disbelief because I had almost exactly 100k miles on my odometer. I explained to him that almost 90% of the mileage was long distance ( minimum of 200 miles on way trips) and he still was saying “He never saw anybody having their first brake pads replaced at 100k miles”

Note: I'm a 28 year old man with no knowledge of how cars work.

In order to save money on my truck, I forced myself to learn how to replace an AC compressor on an F-150 with no mechanical background or knowledge whatsoever. 6 hours of cursing and labor later, I did it.

Braking is mostly regenerative, instead of using the brake pads. Your brake pads will probably last between 100k - 200k miles.

XLT 22 Hybrid, aside from the shitty OEM battery that was just swapped out to an AGM one and the numerous recalls, still loving my truck. Gas is still great and the bed works very well.

At a previous job I had a new company F150, and while the night view was great it seemed to piss everyone else off. Nothing I could do about it, they were set correctly. Stock height is just too high.

The 4.0 SOHC timing chain is basically a deathnail to these because it's such a big labor intensive "engine-out" job. That and rust. The rocker panels under the plastic trim, etc. If the 5R55E transmission had problems, it was usually just a valve body problem, and you can buy a rebuilt upgraded valve body for $200. So it was an easy fix. Also a lot of body parts for these have become unobtanium. If you need a fender you'll need to find one at a salvage yard. Mechanically most of the parts were the same as a Ranger, so plenty of parts availability there.
