yeah its a pretty common thing, i my self have replaced 4 or 5 of them... do yourself a favor, go to autozone and get the duralast one. they're the same thing as the bosch and have a lifetime warranty. oh and that hasnt been the duralast ive had to replace that much, ive only had to replace it once.

Pros: lifetime warranty, same as Bosch
Cons: replaced multiple times

OEM Volkswagen Steering angle sensor
DunKeL GraU
  • Warning light:
Rating 5.0

I had the same problem with the steering wheel being off center after alignment and like the OP it drove me nuts. I took my car to Tyrol Sport (very reputable private VW/Audi shop in the NYC area) and they told me the MK5 has a steering anlge sensor that must be adjusted. They did and the problem was fixed.

Pros: problem was fixed

K&N Oil filter

I use mobil 1 0w-40 and k&n filters - when you buy a filter, get the oversized one that VW approved a while back - with k&n part number HP-3001 vs the stock HP-2005 - big ol' hoss filter but screws right on, takes an extra half quart of oil to fill it up

Pros: oversized filter, better cleaning
Cons: extra half quart needed
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Part number: HP-3001

OEM Volkswagen Timing belt
spitpilot
  • Visible wear:
Rating 3.0

It's ezier to do AWD if the tranny is pointed towards the rear wheels than if its set crosswise in the car...so the "pro" is EZ AWD..the con...its a betch to work on the nose of the engine (timing belt, waterpump etc are much more labor intense than on a transverse VW).

Pros: EZ AWD
Cons: difficult timing belt/waterpump work
Vehicle: Volkswagen Passat

K&N Air filter

K&N filters let in too much dirt when they get older & after a few washes following instructions you can see right through them. Then when oiled, dust plugs them up very fast. When over oiled, the oil can destroy the MAF. All in all not worth the $60 for a panel.

Cons: lets in dirt, plugs fast, oil damages MAF, not worth price
Vehicle: Volkswagen
