I've had it for 1 week now, the lackluster looks of the stock 16's and the squishy, uncertain ride of the Goodyear's was killing me. Discount Tire was quick to the rescue with a set of Faulken LX-10 wheels and they were nice enough to let me get the tires I wanted through Tire Rack. They advised me to avoid the tire size I selected, but I was certain that it would work. The wheels are 20x8.55\" with a 35 mm offset, gloss black backround, machined face with chrome lip. I wanted to fill in the expected wheel gap, so rather than lowering it, I stuffed more rubber into the wheel well 'cause I bought this car to avoid the tailpipe sniffing experience of my previous GTI. The car sits 1\" higher than before, no rubbing, nothing touching in full lock either direction. The tires are Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500, staggered to 245/45-20 front and 255/45-20 rear. My biggest concern was the front lower shock saddle, I clear it by the width of a credit card, an offset of 30-32 would have been perfect, these tires do not stick out at all. The ride and handling are huge improvements, the extra sidewall actually gives a more more comfortable ride than stock with none of the wandering from before. Handling is now crisp and defined, but I wish for a better feel from the steering wheel as it is so overboosted, the setup feels light, until braking, it seems I have to push the pedal harder than before, I'd like to hear your opinions as to why this is. Other than that, I'm quite pleased, $2100 later.

You can regualr coolant as long as COMPLETELY flush out the system. I ran Prestone in my Jetta with regular flushes for 3 years with no problems...an no pitting of my cyl. head
I think we have an Optima in our Mk1 diesel.
i run prestone in my 1.8T and have ran it for 6 months now ever since i put a new radiator in bc my old one cracked so my g12 was completely flushed out. no problems for me.
All done! Timing belt, TB tensioner, idler, water pump and expansion tank are changed and coolant flushed. I forgot to do thermostat, but it was not necessity but rather preventive.
Genuine clutch kits from Sachs, LUK, and Valeo (all VW OEM Suppliers) include: pressure plate, clutch disc, release plate, retainer ring, clutch alignment tool, throwout bearing, and lubricant.
I did this swap to my 1990 Jetta 2-door Digi II CE2 car and my fuel gauge reads correctly. I am using the original 1990 Jetta instrument cluster. It is one of the best mods I have made to my car and recommend it to anyone but I haven't noticed any bigger capacity using the Mk3 tank compared to the Mk2 tank they seem to hold the same amount.
I replaced everything Reynolds9000 listed and although it was a major improvement, the problem only went away when New strut mounts and bearings went in about 2 weeks later....along with tossing out the stock suspension and installing coils.
i'm looking at a set of 9.5 in a 44et all the way around.. i have a 9.5 35et 245 on my rear now and i rub like crazy on bumps..
a side wall bubble is dangerous.. make sure if you plan on driving on it for a period of time to keep you tire pressure perfect if not a bit lower then the factory suggest.. my wife had a small bubble and over inflated a few 5 PSI and blew it out on the highway 10miles later.. you never know when they are going to blow so try to get a new tire ASAP..
