OEM Volkswagen CV joint

OEM CV's are something like 1000x better than aftermarket crap. Have a lowered, engine swapped and turbocharged MK2 VW, and the OEM CV's will put up with this excessive abuse for years and years. Aftermarket CV's didn't make it 50km. Lesson learned.

Pros: OEM 1000x better
Cons: aftermarket failed quickly
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 50 km

APR Ignition coil

I have 75K on my CC Sport with APR Stage1+ Tune. I recently changed my plugs and put APR coils in not sure if got any real power but the car feels so much better. At $27 a coil why not use APR?

Pros: car feels so much better
Cons: not sure if got power
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 75000 km

OEM Volkswagen Fog lights
Toyin
  • Fog visibility:
Rating 5.0

The LED lights work way better than any fog lights I've owned. It really does illuminate the side of the road and fills the gap between the front of your hood and where the standard lights start.

Pros: illuminates the side road

Bilstein Strut assembly

Consensus on OE replacement, same ride height is OE or Bilstein B4s, about 10% stiffer. Alltrack specific B6 came out, finally, in front struts about 8 months ago, but are sold out

Pros: 10% stiffer
Cons: sold out, backordered

MICHELIN Tires
Autofahrer
  • Grip:
  • Noise:
Rating 5.0

I went with Michelin CrossClimate2's on my 2017 Alltrack with the APR ECU and TCU stage 1 tune. Previously I had the Vredestein Quatrac 5 tires which were pretty good too but a tad noisy on fresh blacktop. I don't get enough snow in the Cincinnati area to really merit a set of summer vs winter tires. CrossClimate2's have been on since April and its been a fantastic tire so far. Very quiet and great handling.

Pros: very quiet, great handling

OEM Volkswagen Alternator
Boomer Guy
  • Warning light:
  • Lights:
Rating 5.0

After installing it, all of the intermittent electrical issues disappeared. I'm guessing the old alternator couldn't power all of the electrical issues at once, particularly since the battery light would not come on with the higher rev's of a cold start, but would come on with the low rev's of a warm start.

Pros: solved intermittent electrical issues
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 142000 km

K&N Air filter
Savvv
  • Power:
Rating 3.0

My intake parts showed up yesterday and today. Here they are installed: Under normal driving conditions you’d never notice it’s there. Not until you go WOT and get up above 3-3500rpm does the lovely VR gurgle kick in. Can’t tell a difference in power from the butt dyno but I also wasn’t going WOT on stock intake right before I swapped it. I may get skippy and run some data logs and see what the MAF is reading. I will also report back after some normal driving what the fuel consumption change is, if any.

Pros: lovely VR gurgle
Cons: no power difference

OEM Volkswagen Brake pads

I saw the same thing on our car. We are right under 4K miles and it seemed very ODD to me. Also def a lot of break dust. I have to wash the car/wheels at least once a week because they start turning dark grey.

Cons: a lot of brake dust, premature wear
Mileage: 6437 km
