OEM Volkswagen Starter motor
sachivichik
  • Cranking:
Rating 4.0

Well I began taking apart the car and removing the starter and found that a part of it was bent. I'm not sure if that's the solenoid or what it's called but I'm pretty sure it's the reason the car wouldn't start.

Pros: reason car wouldn't start
Cons: part of it bent
Vehicle: Volkswagen Tiguan

HITACHI Fuel pump
jddaigle
  • Starting:
  • Stalling:
Rating 5.0

My 2008 3.6 Passat had been throwing CELs for fuel pressure off and on for a while. Then last week the N276 (Fuel Pressure Regulator valve in the High Pressure Fuel Pump) revealed itself as the source of the problem by failing completely. I got tons of misfires and surging on cold starts since the pressure in the fuel rail wasn't being regulated and maintained properly. Otherwise the job was pretty straightforward. I got a Hitachi HPP0014 from RockAuto as a replacement HPFP (original was a Hitachi as well). The plug for the N276 had a little gas in it, confirming that the N276 had failed internally at 15 years/125,000mi.

Pros: running smoothly
Cons: misfires and surging
Vehicle: Volkswagen Passat B6
Mileage: 201168 km
Part number: HPP0014

Brembo Brake pads
bezserk
  • Braking:
Rating 4.5

I use brembo pads from ecstuning.com , dont buy parts on amazon or from china when you have a much better source available. I have ECS's own 2 piece rotors on front and brembo rotors on rear, my braking is really powerful and has lasted a long time despite what people say about ceramic pads and drilled/slotted rotors

Pros: powerful braking, long lasting
Cons: avoid Amazon/China
Vehicle: Volkswagen

OEM Volkswagen Brake pads

When I replaced the brakes on my 2016 Performance Package GTI, I took my local shop's recommendations on an "upgraded" pad for the fronts. The next month, I experienced so much squeaking when I applied the brakes that I went back to the shop and asked them to put stock pads back on. I've been happy every since. I would recommend stock pads from VW.

Pros: stock pads work well
Cons: upgraded pads squeaked
Vehicle: Volkswagen

rainx Washer fluid

In the days of my Mk IIIs I used Rain-X washer fluid. It made the lower seal below the windshield turn into soft crumbly gum. At least I've always assumed it was the Rain-X stuff. I haven't used it since. It worked pretty well as Rain-X with no rubbing, though. I was impressed until it came apart. Fortunately the seal had some mysterious purpose, as it was outside and below the windshield and the loss of it didn't cause water leaks.

Pros: worked well as Rain-X
Cons: damaged windshield seal
Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf
