GRAF Water pump

When you do get a pump, buy the entire pump (front and back hemisphere) (like a GRAF brand). If this engine has been moving grit, the rear half of the water pump will be worn more open and not be able to move fluid efficiently.

Pros: efficient fluid movement
Cons: worn rear half

OEM Audi Water pump

To answer the second question, bro, this happens to every Audi owner. Like it’s extremely common for water pumps to fail, mine is In the shop to get a new water pump, and my guys noticed there was 2 small oil leaks.

  • Noise:
Rating 3.0

I had been hearing a hitch-pitched noise from my engine that almost sounded like a vacuum cleaner about 5-10 minutes after engine start up. Took the car into the dealer to find that it was a water pump failure (as I kind of knew from poking around here). It looks like this is a fairly common issue for 2012's unfortunately, but just a heads up for people as this didn't trigger a CEL or anything.

Pros: no CEL triggered
Cons: water pump failure, common issue

Rating 1.0

metal impellers definetely can eff up your setup. I had one on my 2.0 jetta. and it completely froze, and caused me to overheat, which killed my headgasket. The engine never fully recovered from that.

Cons: overheat, killed headgasket

GRAF Water pump

Okay, so I installed a new aftermarket pump in my MK4 Jetta 2.0 last year. Went with the seemingly highly recommended GRAF metal impeller pump that many forum members across multiple forums seemed to stand behind... 14K miles later and it's leaking. Anyway, after doing some more research, it seems that it's considerably more common for aftermarket metal impeller pumps (especially GRAF, but seemingly all of them from what I can find) to fail prematurely for some reason...

Cons: leaking after 14K miles
Mileage: 22530 km
