PENNZOIL Engine oil

Pennzoil Platinum can be found for $26/5qt. and it’s certified to protect against LSPI. I’d suggest going that route if you’re trying to save some cash. I did and the car seems to love it.

Pros: car seems to love
Cons: save some cash

K&N Air filter
200kWJ
  • Power:
  • Throttle response:
Rating 4.0

I have one in both my Forester and wife's Crosstrek. Performance increase? Meh. On my XT it didn't matter, but I did find that the Crosstrek's acceleration from a stop increased nicely. I've had one on my Jeep for over 200k miles with no problems.

Pros: increased acceleration
Vehicle: Subaru Forester
Mileage: 200000 km

MOTUL Engine oil

Motul testing came back and it’s pretty impressive. Definitely gives Valvoline max life a run for its money.

OEM Subaru Head gasket
watkykjypoes23
  • Overheating:
  • White smoke:
  • Milky residue:
Rating 5.0

replace them with the head gasket from the EJ255 or 257. They’re made of MLS and most shops do that in order to make it last longer since they rarely blow.

Pros: last longer, rarely blow

OEM Subaru Alternator
King_j_coby
  • Warning light:
Rating 3.0

I just changed the alternator twice on my 08 Legacy. First time it went I bought a remanufactured alternator. That was fine for a week or so, then the car wouldn't start. Alternator was bad and I had to replace it again. It took a while to trust the second one but it's worked well so far the past couple months so I guess it's fine.

Pros: worked well past months
Cons: bad after a week

Exedy Flywheel

I opted for a lightweight flywheel along with oem style exedy clutch. 1/10 don’t recommend lightweight flywheel. Seems such a small motor is constantly chugging at low speeds. It’s fun but it’s a neck breaker.

Pros: fun
Cons: neck breaker, motor chugging

OEM Subaru Windshield
nickites
  • Clarity:
  • Chips/cracks:
Rating 1.0

I had a rock thrown and couldn't see where it hit because it was right under a wiper blade. Next morning after sun hit it, the fucking crack was 2' long in every direction. Didn't even have a chance to get a repair... Place that replaced it, couldn't get the eyesight to calibrate, so had no cruise control for a month as they waited for an OEM to replace the replacement. Dropped it for replacement and 4 hours later they said, we got it to calibrate, no need to replace. three months later, another rock and shattered. They seem fragile as fuck.

Cons: fragile, shattered easily, calibration issues
Vehicle: Subaru Forester
