Continental Tires

My favorite tire for the typical forester/outback suburb crowd I see at work is still the Continental contiprocontact series. Decent wear, decent performance, easy to install, easy to patch, balance is usually good.

Pros: decent wear, decent performance

OEM Subaru Alternator

Don’t do the alternator until it dies, it’s an easy job because it’s the first thing you see when you open the hood. It takes as long to get the plastic cover off and the belt off then to get the alt out although you may need a pry bar to wiggle it out.

Pros: easy job
Cons: pry bar needed

Bosch Wiper blades
ShizzlePopped
 • Wipe quality:
 • Streaks/chatter:
Rating 4.0

Bosch Focus blades on my 2020 Outback Limited for at least a year and a half. I think they were the FS 18 and 26 OE models but I don't have the original packaging anymore. It came with a top mount adapter and snapped right into place after putting on the correct adapter. I don't think the fitment guides said it would work back then either. The driver side blade had a tendency to chatter for a couple of minutes if the car had been through the car wash recently (probably having to do with the paint sealant they use) but that settled down as the blades wore in a bit.

Pros: easy to install, chatter settled
Cons: initial chatter after wash

MICHELIN Wiper blades
tackstackstacks
 • Wipe quality:
Rating 4.0

The michelin ones they sell are pretty good and come with adapters so that they fit pretty much any arm. I'm in a '19 so I don't know if they switched arms going into Gen 6 but they work fine on mine, and about 2-3 times a year they go on sale from 9.99 to 6.99. I buy an extra set and keep them in the trunk.

Pros: pretty good, universal fit

MICHELIN Tires

They’re meh, I went from having Michelin crossclimates on my 2010 to the OEM tires on my new OB. They do OK in snow, good in rain.

Pros: good in rain, OK in snow
Cons: they're meh

OEM Subaru Brake pads

How were the brakes? My concern with towing is the brakes. I have not towed anything mainly for this reason. I find the brakes to be a weak point of the car and the rear pads wear out very quickly, on the 2013 version anyway. I am not a heavy footed driver, no fast starts, no slamming of brakes at lights and stop signs. Keep things nice and smooth, no riding of brakes, no fast corners which would engage the rear brakes more due to the vector control system (whatever they call it). Rear brakes wear fast and overall braking is fair. Your thoughts from a trailer perspective? Thx!!!

Pros: smooth driving
Cons: rear brakes wear fast
