OPTIMA Battery

I put an Optima Yellow Top battery into my 2018 OB 3.6R because the CCAs of the stock battery were pitiful (490 vs 720). Maybe check out other brands aside from Duralast? Also, get something that’s way beefier than the stock battery, especially if you live in hot or cold climates.

Pros: beefier than stock battery
Cons: stock battery pitiful

OEM Subaru Sun shades
ur-moms-chest-hair
  • Fit:
  • Ease of use:
Rating 4.0

My OEM fits great (23 OBW). Sure it doesn’t fold as compact as a flexible one, but I like the Subaru logo.

Pros: fits great, Subaru logo
Cons: doesn't fold compact
Vehicle: Subaru Outback

Carlex Windshield
Rick91981
  • Chips/cracks:
Rating 4.0

It's a common occurrence on Subaru's equipped with Eyesight. When you get it replaced, get it done with aftermarket glass. The OEM (made by Carlex) is not durable and aftermarket (Pilkington if given a choice, but any aftermarket should do) is much better.

Pros: aftermarket glass is better
Cons: OEM glass not durable
Vehicle: Subaru Legacy

Castrol Engine oil

Smedia had a video about this and he had more wear with less miles using Motul over Castrol in a Blackstone report. So for me just the convenience and price of Castrol edge I'd pick it over Motul. Knowing it had less wear wear was the nail in the coffin of buying overpriced and often several year old Motul.

Pros: convenience and price
Cons: more wear, overpriced

OEM Subaru Oil filter
pwdeegan
  • Leaks:
  • Smell/smoke:
Rating 0.5

I swapped in a new Subaru OEM oil filter on my 2016 MT. After a short 1.5 miles drive, thin smoke escaped from beneath the hood, and a pool of oil gathered. Oil was literally burbling up from beneath the oil filter and spilling out. I immediately turned off the engine. I will not be using anymore of the junk OEM oil filters.

Cons: catastrophic oil leak, filter failure
Vehicle: Subaru
