OEM Honda Head gasket

I had this with my 02 Civic lx. Did compression test and it came up fine. Mechanic checked it and found it was the head gasket. Replaced it all with a gasket kit, new water pump and full tune up. Runs like a champs now, going on 4 months no problems.

Pros: runs like a champ
Cons: head gasket bad

Akebono Brake pads

Akebono are the best brakes a japanese car could get. I replaced my Civic brakes and rotors myself. Cost was around 200$ in parts from RockAuto. If it’s just one axle, I would consider ordering the parts yourself and doing to job on all tires for less. Plenty of YT videos out there. You could buy or borrow parts and do it for less. *I’m a 45 yo woman for reference.

Pros: Akebono best brakes

Koyo Engine radiator

Seems like a loose ground, my s13 did this when the grounds randomly came loose. That said my s13 cluster is so damn slow to react so I run an aftermarket gauge. I have a koyo rad which came with a slot for an aftermarket sensor.

Also i would hope it's not the case, however you mentioned this after an alternator change. I had a 96 civic with a turbo setup and I had an alternator with a failed voltage regulator, all of my aftermarket gauges and temp gauge was acting like this. I would check the volts from the alternator if this is the case, it also ballooned the hell out of my battery..

Pros: aftermarket gauge reliable, alternator voltage check
Cons: potential voltage regulator failure

I have a 2012 Civic LX (purchased new) and replaced the original spark plugs at 100k miles with **Denso 3483 (DXU22HCR-D11S)**—which were listed as compatible on RockAuto at the time. I’ve had great results and am now at 200k miles, looking to replace them with the same.

Pros: great results
Vehicle: Honda Civic
Mileage: 100000 km

K&N Air filter
Natesac
  • Power:
  • Throttle response:
Rating 5.0

I actually switched back from a short ram to the stock airbox recently and it completely changed how the car drives — smoother powerband, better MPG, and way better throttle response. I do miss the VTEC sound a little, but performance > noise for me.

Pros: smoother powerband, better MPG
Cons: miss the VTEC sound
Vehicle: Honda Civic
Mileage: 140000 km

MotoRad Thermostat
Izzyschool
  • Cabin heat:
Rating 1.0

issue that i noticed is that the jiggle pin is inside the bridge, compared to the standard one. i have installed the thermostat, bled the coolant, and still made sure that the jiggle pin and head gasket carve out lines up at the 12oclock position when installing; but now theres some ticking noise sometimes and i can feel my heater blowing really hot air (warmer than the usual heat).

Cons: ticking noise, hot air
