I recommend you use your favorite VW 502 00 spec motor oil with an OEM Mann oil filter and change them at 5K miles. My 2008 Rabbit with the 2.5 CBTA engine has 153K miles so far and I can barely hear it idle.
My ‘11 CR-V AWD is sitting pretty at 285,000 miles and I’ve been using a combination of Valvoline MaxLife Engine Oil High Mileage Full Synthetic and K&N High Performance Oil Filter for the last 100k miles.
Valvoline High Mileage w/ K&N Gold filter, I've had no problems, and it runs smooth
I went with Valvoline 20w50 conventional oil and a MANN 719/5 filter.
Also running a Mann or Mahle Oem filter is good insurance for keeping pressures happy.
I paid $15 for the oil filter and gasket from the dealership. When I opened it up it says Mann on the filter. Lol I paid $35 for the 5w40 oil. Mann cabin filter for $6. Since it's at 40k I bought a engine air filter as well for $10..Mann brand. When I first got the car is was $50 which I didn't mind but then they doubled the price. The first time I changed it the filter was so bad, which made me believe they never changed it. Now since I do it myself it never looks that dirty.
Changed air filter (Mann) oil filter (Mann) and oil, Liqui Moly Molygen 5w40. it's only VW 502 00 'recommended' but that shouldn't be an issue, plan to oil-change every 7k KMs.
The absolute cheapest you can buy VW approved synthetic 502 00 oil (6 quarts) and a quality Mann filter is close to $40...
I have done my own routine service ever since, with Mobil 10W-40 and the Mann 950/4 filter, which is the largest one I can cram between the oil cooler and the left engine mount.
I've only ever used Mann filters and I still consistently get the oil pressure light. I suspect the last time I got an oil change the shop used 5w30 instead of 5w40 because it's been worse than ever for the last 6 months.
