the 80c has been running flawless. Only difference is that my coolant stays at 83-94c. It used to get as high as 100 sometimes. Also the 80c part was recommended oe part #

I had the same problem after installing the metal graf water pump. The problem is caused by the cheap thermostat that comes with the kit( assuming it is the graf kit). I put a stock OEM thermostat back on, and now the temps are fine.
Been running the 80 for a month or so. It works great. Car and Temps run flawlessly. Only difference is my average warmed up Temps are 85c. Used to be 95c
Had that happen with my 02 Outback. Put in an aftermarket thermostat when I redid the timing chain and it overheated. Replaced it with an OE one (bled it the exact same way, used Subaru coolant straight from the dealer both times) and it went away completely.
Noticed coolant was low and could smell it sometimes. Dealership pressure tested system and found coolant leak at thermostat housing. Thermostat replaced under warranty. Its probably been leaking slowly for a year or more.
I replaced the thermostat with a Mishimoto thermostat and vaccume filled the coolant. I did a 30 min test drive in the 95+ weather with the AC cranked. Never went past the 7th dot.
Meyle could be hit or miss.
I had the same problem on my baja turbo with a stant therm.
In regards to replacing the thermostat, Id stay away from Mahle/Behr. I just ran through two that stuck open, so far the Borg and Warner from FCP can actually hold temp @ -19C, which the Mahles could not at -10C.
I have the same one in my E53 X5 3.0 and it takes forever in the winter to warm up. I replaced the old one as it was leaking but the new one takes like 10miles to get fully up to temp. If I have a long coast up to a stop the temp gauge will actually go back down.
