Mobil Oil filter

it was the Oil filter cartridge o ring that had become hard and did not compress to seal the filter any longer. Getting the new one, a mobile 1 filter, I could immediately tell the difference. the new one was pliable and I could tell it would seal nicely. it did...no more leak. The car also had developed a slight stutter at idle. very sensitive, these cars. the stutter is gone too.

Pros: no more leak, pliable
Cons: hard, did not compress

So glad I found this post! I was getting the low oil pressure warning on my 2012 Passat. It would go away after the car warmed up. I changed the oil, dropped the oil pan and cleaned it and the pickup tube. They were already in really good shape. I changed the oil filter too of course. Anyway the light isn't coming on at all now.

Pros: light isn't coming on
Cons: low oil pressure warning

Wix Oil filter

and get a Wix filter or some mid level filter. dont buy the cheapest one out there. 9-15 dollars is about how much you want to spend on a filter. But it works great.

Pros: works great
Cons: dont buy cheapest one

Wix Oil filter

I use Mobil One in all my cars (15k stuff) but still change it at 5k - it’s pretty black by then - I also use WIX oil filter that is rated one of the best

Pros: rated one of the best
Cons: pretty black by then
Mileage: 5000 km

K&N Oil filter

Personally i use these:

Oil filter is a 204-1 so for £8 it's worth buying K&N

And as for oil i use Shell Ultra 4T 10W40 (Fully synthetic). I use this in all my bikes as i find it really enduring and reasonably priced if you know where to look.

Pros: enduring, reasonably priced
Part number: 204-1

Mann Oil filter

I've used the Mann HU 719/6X filter for our Mk5 2.5L engines for more than a decade, without issues. Personally I'd shy away from Fram, at least for these cars -- I've heard bad things about failures.

Pros: used for a decade
Cons: heard bad things
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Part number: HU 719/6X

Mobil Oil filter

I wanted to give you guys a little insight on my recent discovery. I have always changed my oil @ 10K miles, using mainly pentosin and Hengst or mann filters. On occasion when I don't have time to wait for oil to ship to me, I've used German Castrol and autozone filters (either STP, Fram or Mobil 1). The picture below is what my mobil 1 oil filter looked like after 9K miles w/ German Castrol. Mind you I have NEVER had a Hengst/Mann/Fram/STP look like this when changing my oil. Another tid bit of info, My oil was much blacker this oil change than it has ever been.

Pros: never happened with other filters
Cons: oil much blacker
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 14484 km

Fram Oil filter

OEM when easily available and Purolator pure one when there not. I'll add to the fram discussion, that at the shop I work at we just got done installing a $3500 engine in a vehicle because the fram filter literally collapsed and blocked the oiling system entirely (that isn't the only engine with a fram I've seen that happen to either).

Cons: filter collapsed
