OEM headgaskets are better, unless you are trying to get a 85.5mm bore.
Owner reviews for head gasket
Oem replacement is fine. An upgrade is only required if you're going for crazy numbers. Don't worry about it below 250 horse at the wheels.
Stock head gasket is fine for over 250bhp.
Head gasket replacement was an issue with 2018 and early 2019 models. Not 2020s. When mine was replaced my bumper was scratched at the bottom of the lights, the grill and headlights were out of alignment and parts were missing from the area that redirects air through the radiator.
Don't use a Victor Reinz gasket.....
weeping coolant from the head gaskets, wouldn't hold coolant pressure.
got mine towed to the dealer. over heated. diagnostic : head gasket failure. was drinking coolant at 113k km. its a 2022 mainly used on highway.
Headgaskets blew in my 4Runner, 200 miles from home, one mile from an exit, during rush hour.
I own a VW Passat TDi. The repairs are just more expensive and so is the maintenance. Being European, there are more electrical issues. Also the reliability is lower (I am at 270k kms and my head gasket is gone).
Avoid older Subarus with a EJ25 engine, especially 2012 or before. The head gaskets are shit.
