Subaru fixed the head gasket issue in 2011, modern Subarus are just as reliable as Honda and Toyota with the proper maintenance.

I had a 2004 Civic 6 years ago and it kept driving with a blown head gasket I didn’t know about.

Pros: continued driving despite issue

OEM Honda Head gasket

Are you sure it was the head gasket and not like the valve cover gasket? An oil leak from the head gasket is possible but really unusual. When a head gasket blows usually you start burning coolant, not leaking oil. Something in this story doesn’t quite make sense to me.
