it was from the garbage head gasket era, and it still had its original factory head gaskets on it when I finally pulled the motor to turbo swap it earlier this year. It had 270,000km on it. So overall, for 10 years of ownership it was pretty damn reliable.

Pros: long lasting, original factory
Vehicle: Subaru Forester
Mileage: 270000 km

I've owned a 2008 Outback (sold in 2018 with 110,000 miles when the head gasket failed). The consistent oil problems are troubling. But the pros have outweighed the cons so far, so I keep getting Subarus.

Pros: pros outweighed the cons
Cons: consistent oil problems

OEM Honda Head gasket

The Civic has a question mark with it's L15 turbo engine and premature failing head gaskets. Same issues seen in CR-V's with that engine. Not everybody is going to experience it, but it shows up often and is definitely a design weakness in that engine.

Cons: premature failing, design weakness
Vehicle: Honda Civic

Latish model Nissan navaras, coolant leak from the left front of the headgasket area caused by the boost regulator failing and overbooking causing the headbolts to stretch haha

OEM Hyundai Head gasket

I just had my second head gasket replacement at like 110,000 miles, I looked at the invoice or receipt from Hyundai when i picked up the car… and tell me why the dealership is putting 5w-20 when it says 0w20 in the oil cap.. maybe that’s why their engines be blowing. :/ I have a 2021 Elantra se

Cons: engine blowing
Vehicle: Hyundai Elantra

OEM FORD Head gasket

At 70,000miles it started making a water sound right after turning it off. Months later I noticed a white smoke coming from the tail pipe. One day it gave me that code and started sputtering. Turns out the head gasket had cracked and was letting coolant into my engine pistons. It flooded it. I needed a whole engine replaced.

Cons: head gasket cracked, engine flooded, engine replaced
Vehicle: Ford Escape
Mileage: 112654 km

Maybe I’m the outsider but after 3 Subarus I’m done with them. Each was less durable, had more problems, and died with less miles on the odometer. Between head gaskets and that horrible CVT, I’m not fixing a car worth $4,000 with an estimate of $11,000

Cons: less durable, more problems
Vehicle: Subaru

OEM MG Head gasket

Horrible horrible cars. I owned a second hand MG ZS and almost everything shit itself - head gasket blew and I was too traumatised to continue fixing things on it outside warranty. Please do not buy an MG.

Cons: head gasket blew
Vehicle: MG ZS
