OEM Mazda Head gasket

The Mazda OEM head gasket is strong enough to reliably handle boost. Unless you're making crazy high power, you don't need the upgrade.

Pros: strong enough for boost

OEM Subaru Head gasket

I can't recommend calling around to other mechanics/dealerships enough. Did the head gaskets on my subie, have done them on all subies, but on the most recent one earlier this year. The range in expected cost I was quoted ranged from 2700-8k. Went with the 2700 option, a local, family owned subaru mechanic, and have had zero issues since.

Pros: zero issues since
Vehicle: Subaru

OEM Toyota Head gasket

According to Toyota themselves It’s caused by inadequate caulking on the head gasket itself. There is a revised part number head gasket that has better longevity but in order to solve the problem entirely the engine would have to be redesigned.

Pros: revised part, better longevity
Cons: inadequate caulking
Vehicle: Toyota Prius

My 2020 Accord 1.5t has 80K miles and already had to do valve cover gasket and now head gasket is blown. Then there’s also the issue of the front radar sensor that is constantly getting stolen because some genius at Honda decided to put this $700 part in the front of the car with nothing protecting it; looks like Honda just decided to give absolutely no f*cks when building this masterpiece. Oops almost forgot, had to replace the full head unit for the radio because it just decided to stop working at 50K miles.

Cons: head gasket blown, radar sensor stolen
Vehicle: Honda Accord
Mileage: 80000 km

I did have one issue on my 2012 Sequoia, I had the dreaded leaking head gasket oil leak. Cost me a little over $2k to fix. Not common but man took me by surprise.

Cons: leaking oil, costly repair
Vehicle: Toyota Sequoia

I have a 2010 Prius that has been a daily driver and has 425000km on it. It ran perfect with only brakes and oil changes until 390000km when the head gasket went. Mechanic said the engine wasn't powerful enough to harm itself and after the replacement it's been running great.

Pros: running great after repair
Cons: head gasket failed
Vehicle: Toyota Prius
Mileage: 390000 km

The Kia Stinger is a mechanics nightmare. I've seen more of those with blown head gaskets than on the road.

Cons: mechanics nightmare, blown head gaskets

Ct200h or Prius 2zr-fxe because the headgasket will fail at 150k and you have to replace the pcv often because it gets stuck open and burns oil...

Cons: headgasket will fail
Vehicle: Toyota Prius
Mileage: 150000 km
