As I have mentioned, I have the cabin heater installed in my 17 Golf R. It is not the typical large old school heater with a stove type heating element, it is more sophisticated. The current flow (wattage) decreases as the cabin warms up which save energy. It has quite small in footprint and It is quite thin, about 1 3/8" and is positioned so that it will not interfere with the the passenger seat if moved fully forward.and the heater is pointing up at the correct angle so that air circulates without directing hitting the passenger seat or the console. I have even sat in the passenger seat with the cabin heater running, no problem. I have no concern about the heat causing a problem with the interior trim, and certainly no concern about a fire hazard. Everything DEFA make is first class and is not only UL/CSA certified, but is approved and sold by many OEM's. Nissan, Honda and Toyota are promoting DEFA Warmup solution products on their websites, so that speaks of their confidence in the safety and effectiveness of the products. As for the aesthetics, it blends in quite well and I don't think it looks out of place. It can be removed during the summer, but I have not bothered. I installed the bracket very securely to ensure that it stays put during hard acceleration, braking and cornering. It does not rattle. It slides in, and snaps into place, but does require a little force to snap free, if you do want to remove it. Before starting your car you must unplug the cord (or at least switch the power off if your outside receptacle is controlled by an indoors switch). This is not a concern normally because you can not drive away with your car plugged in! However, if you want to use your remote start, you must first shut off the power because the complete DEFA warmup solution uses a pump to circulate coolant, a cabin heater and also has a battery charger. A running engine will also be trying to circulate the coolant and charge the battery. I suggest that when you park the car at night, you switch off the interior HVAC fan. Then let the DEFA cabin heater warm the interior during the night. When you start the car, either by getting in yourself or by remote start, the engine will not immediately begin to be cooled down by the cars interior heater. So.....Unplug the cord, start the car, clean the snow off, get in, turn on the HVAC fan and drive away. I love it!

Pros: sophisticated, saves energy, first class
Cons: must unplug before starting
