I went with a BorgWarner S257SXE... 515hp at all 4 wheels on Ethanol at around 21 psi. Spools faster than OEM twins.

I have a '56 DeSoto FireDome sedan with the 330 hemi, 2 barrel carb backed by a Borg Warner 3 speed manual with overdrive on the column. But it all works together beautifully for the moment.
man those EFR turbos were fucking lit.
Quite a few years ago I bought a Borgwarner EFR6758 for my build, and it was a stellar little unit.
The absolute cheapest brand new turbocharger you can buy for those engines is an aftermarket BorgWarner and will set you back no less than €1000 + shipping.
Stick with a Borg Warner replacement. Buy once, cry once. The price is worth the longevity and reliability.
IMO, the minimal increase in power is not worth it. I wasted countless time and money on this turbo and was disappointed in the end. I have since stepped up to a 28RS and am beyond please with the jump. Spool time on a small frame BT is minimal, and 300whp is plenty streetable no matter what some say. I have a k04-001. With meth, I put down a reliable 225whp all day long (and that's on the ole' heartbreak dynodynamics dyno). She holds her power, too; peaks way later in the rpm range unlike the wily k03s, yet is still @20psi when you turn the key. Is it fun..yes. Is it worth it monitarily...meh. At best, it makes for a great auto-x setup. Don't expect to do much damage beyond 3rd gear, though. I will be upgrading in the near future to a T3s60 or 28RS if that means anything to ya. I've had this setup for less than six months, and expect it gone within the year.
I have this turbo but t4 twin scroll with bigger AR. It is too small on my half Bridgeport 6 port turbo fc.
3 weeks after posting this and my turbo locked up on the hot-side... Car ran 10 degrees hot out of nowhere and then a loud pop followed. Checked everything and it seemed okay. Except the turbine wheel didn't want to spin. Absolutely locked up. Friend driving behind me saw more black smoke than usual during the pull followed by a blue-white "puff" which we agree is when the turbo died.
They are indeed extremely fragile, the stock CKRA BorgWarner turbo is not reliable and will blow. Its just a question of when not if
