My 535i with the 740d thermostat sits at 90-95 during normal use, even sat stable at 95c during 40c weather in traffic. When beating on it in the mountains got it up to 99 at like 28c ambient.

I was lucky as no metal contamination was found in my system. $3100 of replacement later and I'm back on the road with the latest generation of compressor. Yay!
I have this exact engine and installed a diesel thermostat. Previously, with the standard thermostat, the plastic timing chain guides would start to disintegrate after three years, but now I have no problem with that. The engine temperature is around 96°C.
Ah, the camshaft position sensor. A real grievance of mine, I had to replace it twice.
My symptoms were strange, my 320Ci with an automatic transmission would stall if I was too quick switching between Drive - Reverse, then Drive again (like when turning around in a drive way), I scanned and saw the code P0304, replaced the sensor, and the car seemed fine for a while. But I still did not get that VANOS power boost at lower RPMs. I was suspecting a worn-out VANOS unit at this point, but did further digging. I did a test drive car with an OBDII-scanner and revealed the sensor output was not what it should have been. The same P-code did not re-appear, but others did, BMW-specific ones such as "41 Signal, inlet-camshaft sensor" where 41 is hexadecimal for 65.
So I ponied up the $200 or whatever it was for a new Genuine BMW sensor, and the problems I had had the last two or so years all vanished.
It has new brakes, oil pan gasket, VCG, new radiator, hoses, fan, fan clutch, water pump and a few other things I’m forgetting.
OEM batteries are made from fairy dust. I still have my original one in my E92, made in 2007. Def recommend getting an OEM battery.
I got the shock absorbers replaced (bmw genuine) - and the upper strut mount is good they said.
Knocking is better but is still there.
4 windshields in 2 years for my 2022 540i. Always been a vey small rock with a chip on the edges.
I’m not satisfied with the range (70 miles) or the charging speed (max 19.2 kW via J-1772, taking 4 to 13 hours to charge) of the BMW batteries in my Lion Type C electric school bus.
This latest 2022 540i has been the worst on windshields. I’ve never once cracked a windshield. I’m now going on my 4th windshield in two years.
