Interesting, still doesent change the fact that Nokian makes insane winter-tires, studded or not. Their lifespan is not as good as other brands, but when they're new, damn do they stick well.

I'm currently running the DWS06 tires on my APR Stage 2 Mk7. I've put several thousand miles on them already and so far I like them. Definitely better than the terrible stock Pirellis that came with the car. In dry conditions, they grip quite well (obviously not as well as summer tires) for all seasons.
Sorry it's a little late, but I've been using EBC yellows on my MK6 for double duty and I have no complaints other than the dust. They certainly make no noise.
Instead I installed an aftermarket 'rebuilt' 4 bolt unit. Came with new bellows boots and inner tie rods, was still a bit pricey but saved something like $300 - 500 vs buying a rack & harness from my dealer.
Mine were crap from day 1...left a 4" drivers side streak on first use. Swapped in PIAA Si Techs...perfect since.
You can use the mk1 manual trans but I'd recommend an fx300 clutch setup and a diff if you want to do as little custom and more drop in.
I've changed my TDI's oil every 10K miles since it was new. It currently has 330K miles on it and runs like a watch.
Exactly what I run on my R. Works perfectly, looks good.
Here's an update on why I posted this thread. I have a Thinkware F750 Dashcam w/ the Hard wiring accessory so I can record (in parking mode) with the engine off but the cam fires up as soon as I turn the ignition and will record full time.
My mk3 golf is at the shop right now because I installed a replacement valeo alternator and it didnt seem like a perfect fit and shredded up the serpentine belt. I think the shop I got the replacement from gave me a bad fit.
