The kolbenschmidts are coated side skirts as well which is great for cyl bore wear. Few mk4 blocks I grabbed had perfect cyl bores even at high mileage.

I live in Vancouver as well, and went up to Whistler/Squamish/Cypress in the snow last winter with my R equipped with my "winter" setup of Conti DWS 06 and it was more than fine. She handled it like a champ.
I did the OE sized StopTech setup on my car in July. I really like them. I don't have a lot of time on them, but I'm happy with them so far.
Earlier, I complained about my old STi Driver occasionally picking up on my car’s own blind spot radars. I sent it in to Beltronics for a US$99 upgrade, and what an upgrade it was! I received an all-new STi Magnum housing, remote cord, carrying case, and several mounts. The Magnum’s traffic signal rejection feature worked well to keep the detector quiet.
I've just done a halogen to Golf R style projector headlight swap on my 2010 GTI here in Australia. I am very happy with the headlights overall. My headlights are Eagle Eye brand and look exactly the same as the Golf R silver housings. I was pleasantly surprised to know that fitment was great, quality also looks great, plugs and wiring were concealed and neat, and the light output is much better than the factory halogens.
I'm using Castrol Edge (or whatever) full synthetic 5w40 + about 250mL of Lucas engine oil additive (that stuff has done amazing things for other high-mileage engines I've had in the past).

VW recommend full synthetic 5W-30 or 5W-40. Some owners also use 0W-40 as well, it's easier to find on store shelves. Honestly using the right type of oil and changing it regularly is more important than the brand. Just don't buy the cheap store-brand recycled stuff and you'll be fine. People go back and forth online about brands and stuff but you're probably talking about fractions of a percent better one way or the other. If you still want suggestions: Mobil-1 oil and a Mann filter, there, I said it.
My AC smells like wet dog for the first 30 seconds I run it. Wonder if changing the cabin filter would help.
I have a distorted windshield on my Golf R. It's right smack in the middle of my view out of the car. It drives me nuts. I already had one replaced under warranty and the second one is the same.
