OPTIMA Battery

Rating 5.0

i'm very pleased with the battery's performance. i took the family to the drive in theater and sat through 3 movies listening to the stereo and using the lights. when it was time to start the van, it did so without even the slightest hint of complaint. also, this afternoon my EV gave me a fit and would not fire up at the car wash. i cranked the living bejeesus out of the starter and the battery never once gave a sign of weakening. no jumps were needed. a highly recommended battery alternative!

Pros: pleased with performance, high cranking power

OPTIMA Battery

Rating 5.0

I put in a Optima yellow top that I got at Costco for about $150. I bought a $5 extension so my wires could reach the terminal. Great sealed dry cell battery!

Pros: great sealed dry cell

HELIX Headlights
bluefox280
  • Brightness:
  • Aim:
Rating 4.0

Taking the challenge, I bought the headlights to give them a whirl. The housings fit great in the front clip assembly. Body lines and overall fit + finish is spectacular for aftermarket lights. And the price is reasonable compared to hard to find and overly expensive OEM HIDs.

Pros: great fit and finish
Cons: aiming needs shimming

Mobil Oil filter

have used them with excellent results 90k on my 2003 jetta 1.8T only castrol 5W-40 syntec and mobile 1 filters. my engine is as clean as new on the inside. they filter down to 5 micron or so. also if you look inside of the mobile 1 filter it will have a valve or check ball like the factory uses.

Pros: excellent results, clean engine
Mileage: 90000 km

K&N Air filter

My vr6 had nothing but maf issues after I installed a k&n. I wouldn't even dream of putting a k&n in my 1.8t. The paper filters are fine. It's been proven on the dyno more than once that you get no gains from a k&n whatsoever. Unless you think you are going to clean and reoil your k&n to reuse it and save on filter costs (in which case again you have to be careful not to over oil or you screw up your maf up big time) there is no specific benefit to gain by installing one. Let me note that I've not noticed the same issues in older vw's, just mk IV's.

Cons: MAF issues, no performance gains
