EAGLE EYES Headlights
Lucas_R
  • Brightness:
Rating 5.0

I've just done a halogen to Golf R style projector headlight swap on my 2010 GTI here in Australia. I am very happy with the headlights overall. My headlights are Eagle Eye brand and look exactly the same as the Golf R silver housings. I was pleasantly surprised to know that fitment was great, quality also looks great, plugs and wiring were concealed and neat, and the light output is much better than the factory halogens.

Pros: great fitment, great quality
Cons: none

KONI Strut assembly

I personally, like ONLY the sport mode of DCC, so if I can find good NON DCC struts/shocks for the R that are really worth buying, and that can handle my springs, I would be on it.

Pros: good sport mode

Sachs Clutch kit
gx33
  • Engagement smoothness:
  • Noise:
Rating 5.0

So after a year of having the tune, the stock clutch started giving me problems. I decided to bite the bullet and buy the Sachs SRE clutch kit for the MK7 GTI. I just got the car back today and drove it around for an hour or so after picking it up. FIRST IMPRESSIONS FEEL - Wow, the clutch pedal is like an on/off switch right now. It was SUPER stiff and springy when I first started driving it, but after driving for an hour it I am already executing perfect shifts again and the pedal has softened up a tiny tiny bit. Still a big change - and still going to make sitting in traffic a bit more cumbersome unless it softens up a bit more. PERFORMANCE - Still in the break-in period, so I haven't given it the full beans yet. But man oh man, if you want lightning fast shifts and perfect downshifts, this clutch is a willing dance partner. NOISE - Zero, zip, nada. No different than stock. If anything, my stock clutch was a little more chattery. VERY PLEASED AT THIS. VIBRATION - refer to "noise" Overall, I am very pleased so far. When I first got in the car I was a bit shocked at how fast/stiff the pedal action was - but after driving it for a while I found that I was shifting the car faster and cleaner than I did with the stock clutch.

Pros: lightning fast shifts, perfect downshifts
Cons: stiff and springy pedal

Shell Engine oil
ArgonJr
  • Engine noise:
Rating 4.0

You need to run the 507.00 spec oil. I have been running Shell Rotella T6 Heavy Duty Diesel 5W-40 oil. They other one that I want to start using and is more widely recommended is Liqui Moly 4200 Top Tec 5W-30. The reason why I mention this is because the 507.00 spec oils has better lubrication then the other 501 and 506 spec oils. If the wrong spec oil is used it has a tendency to produce premature Cam shaft lobe wear requiring the replacement of the cam shafts.

Pros: better lubrication
Cons: wrong spec causes wear

Lucas Oil additives
MEC-777
  • Engine noise:
Rating 5.0

I'm using Castrol Edge (or whatever) full synthetic 5w40 + about 250mL of Lucas engine oil additive (that stuff has done amazing things for other high-mileage engines I've had in the past).

Pros: amazing results, high mileage

OEM Audi Oil filter

There is a small oil filter in the cam shafts bracket. That fails, I read somewhere Audi issued a recall to replace them, but VW didn't, even though the part is the same and same likelihood to fail no matter the brand of the card.

OEM Volkswagen Throttle body
xo_vw
  • Throttle response:
Rating 3.5

VW found a problem with the throttle body and replaced that under a California emissions warranty, and I also did a trans flush. It shifts a lot better now, but still some weird shifts esp. between 2-3 and 6-5.

Pros: shifts a lot better
Cons: still some weird shifts

STOPTECH Brake pads

That's the standard Toe-N-Go alignment.. most "alignment" places do that, unless you go to a specialized alignment place.

Pros: standard alignment
Cons: Toe-N-Go alignment
