OEM Lexus Brake caliper

My brakes were so poor I got the Lexus four pot conversion for the fronts but didn't want to space the wheels out so ended up rebuilding the originals. There were 4 seized pistons out of 6 so I honed the bores and put +1mm oversized stainless ones in with new seals, pins and pads. I went for slotted discs but they are a lot noisier.

Pros: stops better now
Cons: slotted discs noisier

Carlex Windshield
Rick91981
  • Chips/cracks:
Rating 4.0

It's a common occurrence on Subaru's equipped with Eyesight. When you get it replaced, get it done with aftermarket glass. The OEM (made by Carlex) is not durable and aftermarket (Pilkington if given a choice, but any aftermarket should do) is much better.

Pros: aftermarket glass is better
Cons: OEM glass not durable

OEM Subaru Radiator cap
bentref11
  • Seal:
  • Overheat control:
Rating 5.0

Check the radiator cap. I had this same issue (though no overheating, perhaps because I was driving in sub-freezing temperatures) and after replacing the radiator cap with a $12 part, no issues since.

Pros: no issues since

OEM Subaru Battery

Yeah they use undersized batteries, but just buy a good one and that's the end of it. my 2019 Legacy had is original battery after 4 years when I traded it in.

Cons: undersized batteries

MOTUL Engine oil

For Motul you want xcess not X-clean. X-clean is only for things with direct injection. I would do xcess or t6, ether work in 5w-40. I do both of them with my stage 2.6 IAG block as they recommend. Mostly Motul, but the last change I did was t6 since I could not get motul locally or in a reasonable amount of time.

Pros: works well
Cons: availability issues

OEM Subaru Alternator
King_j_coby
  • Warning light:
Rating 3.0

I just changed the alternator twice on my 08 Legacy. First time it went I bought a remanufactured alternator. That was fine for a week or so, then the car wouldn't start. Alternator was bad and I had to replace it again. It took a while to trust the second one but it's worked well so far the past couple months so I guess it's fine.

Pros: worked well past months
Cons: bad after a week

STP Oil filter
Particular-Car-3135
  • Leaks:
  • Smell/smoke:
Rating 1.0

Dont buy a Stp, had my oil changed on my 09 Legacy, a few days later I notice a drip and the usual burning smell while driving . Took It back to mechanic and they said there was a dot on filter so they swapped It out. Burning smell still there but leak was not seen, so I bought a Purolator and changed It myself now no problems.

Cons: oil leak, burning smell
