Gates Timing belt kit
katanadog
  • Smooth running:
  • Visible condition:
Rating 4.0

I used the gates kit on my NA with oem studs and have had no issues. Gates supplies other big names. Quality wise the parts seem to be comparable to the OEM RB kit I've used. Really it depends on your build I'd say. For my 300 dollar NA engine I couldn't justify a 800 dollar OEM kit.

Pros: no issues, comparable to OEM

Hankook Tires

I'm gonna come out of left field here and recommend either the Falken Azenis FK510 or Hankook Ventus Evo 2. Both affordable (the Hankooks moreso than the Falkens), both grip great for spirited street use, both have respectable tread lives.

I'm speaking from experience with both.

Pros: grip great, respectable tread

AISIN Thermostat
MrFordman999
  • Overheating:
Rating 5.0

The OEM Aisin thermostat opens at 185, staying completely closed until 180 where it can open up partially allowing proper circulation and proper temperature control. The engineers at Nissan designed this cooling system to function in a certain way at very specific temps. ONLY USE THE AISIN 185 OEM thermostat in these trucks.

Pros: proper circulation, temperature control
Vehicle: Nissan

Nokia Tires
andrewse
  • Grip:
  • Noise:
Rating 4.5

I have Nokian SUV3 (I think) all weather tires on my AWD Rogue. They are much, much better than the factory supplied all season tires. I would rate the winter traction at about 90% of a winter ice tire. In the summer they're a little loud but still perform well.

Pros: much better than all-season
Cons: little loud in summer
Vehicle: Nissan

GPD AC compressor

So, we picked out a GPD brand compressor from CarID.com, it came in, and he replaced it. I picked the car up, and the AC was working great, but I noticed that when the AC is on, the system makes a very loud noise. It's hard to describe, kind of like a loud rumbling / low screeching. It's pretty loud, and it ramps up with engine RPMs, so I can hear it over the engine even at freeway speeds. My mechanic basically told me that compressors that don't cost a lot make noise. I tried to tell him that it gets louder when I drive faster, but he basically dismissed me, saying that it's normal for cheap air compressors to be this loud. I've been looking over plenty of forum posts from people who have used GPD compressors and never complained about the noise, and though I trust my mechanic, I'm feeling a bit uncertain about this. He advised me to just live with the noise as long as the AC still works, but honestly the noise is so loud I'm not sure I can just 'live with it.'

Pros: AC working great
Cons: very loud noise, rumbling/screeching
