FULDA Tires

Got all 4 for 250€ with almost new Fulda tires on it, that was a steal in my eyes - had to get them. They are Fondmetal 5700 in ET38, 195/50/R15.

Pros: steal, almost new tires

OEM Mazda Timing belt
karmavorous
  • Visible wear:
Rating 4.5

My NA had ~90,000 miles on the original almost 25 year old belt when I bought it. We actually did a couple of autocrosses and my girlfriend drove it on her 100 mile commute for a few weeks before we got all the parts and tools and time to do the job. The belt didn't even look like it was going to break any time soon. It was definitely overdue for changings, but it wasn't cracking or mission teeth.

Pros: no cracking, no missing teeth
Cons: overdue for changing
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 90000 km

SUMITOMO Tires

I guess that's the end of my third set of Sumi HTR Z IIIs... I really like those tires for the price. And until that little scare... I ever had a clue the back tires were 1/2 slicks even in the rain.

Pros: good price, liked tires
Cons: wore quickly, bad in rain
Vehicle: Mazda

IDEMITSU Engine oil

You don't need to add any more additives to modern day oils. You said you will be using Mazda 0W-20 oil? This is one of the best 0W-20 oils on the market. It is made by Idemitsu for Mazda. It has very high Viscosity Index of 221. Most 0W-20 oils are around 170. This means it is one of the lightest 0W-20 at start up. This is what you want in the winter.

Pros: high Viscosity Index

Stinger Alternator

Singer alternators is the only place that I could find. It's expensive $429 including shipping and lifetime parts and labor. Great deal with that. He makes a 200A.

Pros: lifetime parts and labor
Cons: expensive

DUNLOP Tires

Once you talk about ditching the crap Dunlops that come from the factory and adding a rear sway bar, you are talking big-time fun.

Pros: big-time fun
Cons: crap Dunlops

Continental Tires

  • Noise:
Rating 3.0

Conti ExtremeContacts are noisy. I have them on my Mazda5. The tires are especially loud when they are cold and moving at low speed. They feel like good tires and seem to wear well, but the noise factor alone makes me want to not keep them for too long.

Pros: good feel, wear well
Cons: noisy, loud when cold
Vehicle: Mazda 5

OEM Mazda Brake pads

The brakes - overheated on several occassions coming down mountain passes. This happened on 2 sets of brakes so it seems like a design issue.

Cons: overheated on mountain passes

BRIDGESTONE Tires

A friend of mine put a set of those on her Mazda5, in 16\". While I didn't find any issues with it not tracking straight, they did wear quickly, and yet somehow had very little traction. I'm talking \"light them up the whole way through an intersection in a stock Mazda5\" levels of non-grip. Garbage tires.

Cons: wear quickly, little traction
