I picked up a set from Anco for my Si for $16 at Rockauto. They're great.
Honda parts reviews
I had one for seven years and 80k miles and the only problem I had was the A/C compressor. It was two years out of warranty and Honda went 50/50 with me on it. I drove the piss out of it, multiple trips to the redline every day, etc., and it was flawless mechanically and never burned oil or made any unhappy noises.
Have Falkens on my '03 Civic Si. No problems in the wet and I'm in South Florida. Replaced original Michelins with them with no regrets. They're a pretty good tire in my opinion.
Sounds like it could be a spark plug. For some reason the Prelude likes to eat through them. Shows the exact same symptoms you describe (loss of power, different exhaust note).
the last tires i had were kumho ecsta asx and they are assymetrical and when i looked at the they were different on the right and left side.
A buddy of mine had a set of their snow tires - oh geez, about 10 years ago now? I remember them because they were freaking fantastic - keeping up with 4wd Jeeps in an 84 Accord through Wilson Twp in PA. I just remember driving his car and just could not believe the snow grip.
My Honda guy says to use Mobil 1, OEM filter and change every 5k.
My wife's CR-V has Michelin Artic Alpins, they work OK but they emit a really loud "whistle" on wet asphalt.
If there's a sore point on the Si, it's the brakes. It's that initial application is far too touchy, making smooth heel-and-toeing difficult especially when only light brake application is required. That abruptness proves annoying even in hard use, and the slightly spongy pedal feel doesn't help matters.
When I had my Honda, a freak incident occured involving pads. I was coming up to a red light and I just heard a "thunk" and next thing I know, I had little to no-brake power. Took the wheel and caliper off, and somehow the outer pad had completley vanished....no joke, gone, nothing left, not even a shred of metal.
