OEM BMW Antifreeze

  • Temperature stability:
Rating 5.0

Don't buy BMW coolant it's overpriced just like everything else they sell. Blue coolant is preferred but the premixed green stuff isn't going to cause catastrophic meltdowns. My 97 328i has the green stuff and I've got no issues after 196k miles.

Pros: no issues after miles
Cons: BMW coolant overpriced
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 196000 km

PENNZOIL Engine oil

That's what I run. It supposedly runs lighter than the specified 40. It's LL-01 approved. I change it every 8000km/5000miles.

Pros: runs lighter than 40
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 8000 km

In the end, after a full refund, I bought a reman trw pump from fcp for $100 less than a reman pump from a big box store and all is well.

Bilstein Shock absorbers
phulton
  • Bottoming:
Rating 3.0

I did find the b6 to be on the stiffer side. Not full on race car stuff, but definitely "sporty stiff."

They absorb impacts really well, but you're still gonna feel everything.

Pros: absorb impacts well
Cons: on the stiffer side
Vehicle: BMW X5

Mahle Thermostat
Skunkms5
  • Slow warm-up:
Rating 1.0

I have the same one in my E53 X5 3.0 and it takes forever in the winter to warm up. I replaced the old one as it was leaking but the new one takes like 10miles to get fully up to temp. If I have a long coast up to a stop the temp gauge will actually go back down.

Cons: slow to warm up
Vehicle: BMW X5
Mileage: 16 km
