I replaced mine with KYBs all around last year. Rides excellent and doesn't feel stiff. Reused the springs.
I prefer KYB but I have used Gabriel and Monroe with good results. The KYB’s had a noticeably better ride than the other choices.
I’ve had good luck with KYB.
When I replaced the struts on my C30 I went with KYB and so far they're performing great
I have the KYB with Eibach springs on my GS400. The ride is smooth & controlled
Buy KYB Struts Plus because they are identical to the OEM in replicating the ride and feel.
Had an 85' Jetta GLI: installed lowering springs (1/5" front, 1" rear, 40% stiffer? Hor brand? Pretty sure I picked them up from Autotech) and used HD standard struts (coilovers were not available and pretty sure I used Sach's struts).
KYB struts are reputable but they aren't known for being softer. I also know of issues with the easy strut assemblies causing clunking sounds.
Friday the shop replaced both rear struts with new KYB struts. The next morning I drove 160 miles round trip on interstate at interstate speeds. On the way back some minor road damage made the car feel like it was going to go right off the road -- pulling right, lots of twisting and yawing.
When home I found a puddle of reddish fluid where the truck had been overnight. This morning the shop confirmed that \*both\* struts had blown out and they never saw anything like it.
Even the Sachs aftermarket are more harsh than OE
