Brake pads Brembo or OEM Audi
Brakes.. It's been said, but cost more to replace, are heavier but more powerful, so an advantage from that standpoint.
GermanAutoParts.com has front BREMBO brake pads available for 1986-1989 Scirocco 16V models. Brembo's premium ceramic compound provides increased stopping power and reduced dust combined with quiet, smooth operation. Brembo Ceramic pads are an excellent choice if you want to minimize dust and noise while increasing braking performance in general street use.
I've done lots of jobs that don't involve getting inside the engine, such as replacing brake rotors/pads, alternators, starters, shocks, accessory/alternator belts, etc.
I trust companies like Brembo or mintex to make decent, quality parts more than I trust Volvo to supply some. Volvo themselves don't make brake components. On my 240 for example the front brakes are Girling and the rears are ATE.
If this is going to take off you need to make sure it will work for those with upgraded brakes, specifically the Audi 8 pot and 362mm ap discs setup.
I had a set of 4 pots on my GLI and I must say the stopping power on the 4 pot Brembo>Stock.
Stock brakes are just ok. I'll be fixing the issue in the aftermarket world. Brembo package probably fixes this issue, but mine was used and didn't come with that option.
I took the liberty of swapping my A4 brakes into S4 brakes, all for 600 dollars. The brakes should response much better, stronger, and use much less pedal force. Your brakes when the engine is off should be REALLY hard if properly bled.
Brake pads were replaced abt 2,000 miles ago, and the rotors; apparently can last till i have to replace the pads again.
just swapped out my original brake pads and rotors for some oem rotors with the brembo aftermarket pads hoping to avoid the dust that the original trw pads creates. all went well with install, everything seemed to fit nicely, but after about 10 miles the pads started jumping up and down in the carrier any time id hit a bump in the road. ive seen the threads talking about this issue with certain aftermarket companies, but figured id put it out there that brembo is another one that seems to have made their pads just a tiny bit shorter than original giving it enough room to slide up and down. side to side is fine, but the noise is unbearable for what it is. threw my oe pads back on and will be getting a new set of vw pads in the am. cant stand the dust but its wayyyy better than the car sounding like it did with those pads. these companies need to include shims or something.
